I noticed that some of the smug villagers that were once popular (Julian is a great example) are being completely overshadowed by Raymond at this point, Marshal is still quite popular however I have yet to see Julian anywhere

In new leaf, stitches was one of the tier 1 but I rarely see him get auctioned anymore. Still love him though

There was a recent auction where he sold for 2,500 NMT.. not questioning the legality of that, though.. that's running on thin ice, lol.

he's new, has a pretty cute design (smug cat! heterochromia! his house is an office), and he's less attainable than those with amiibos, so i think raymond auctions are their best shot at guaranteeing that they will get him rather than spending all their tickets and possibly not getting him. also, seeing so much demand/people dropping a bunch of money on this one character leads to other people wanting him even more ! if they release amiibos for the new characters, the crazy prices will drop so quick LMAO

I don't even want Audie because she's new or even popular. I wanted her when she was revealed on that decal thing, plus seeing her in the trailers. I just liked her design and figured she was probably Uchi or Peppy. Then people found out her name was Audie, referencing that elderly lady who played ACNL and she got super popular.

She would have been popular because she's a wolf and peppy and all that but the extra stuff made her... overhyped. I still want her because I like her design though. And cause she's a wolf.

oh definitely. iirc, the same happened with marshal back in New Leaf; everyone had him lol. it was getting kinda boring seeing him so much in people's dream towns ;;

i still really love julian!! i'm just not actively looking for him atm because i have him in my new leaf town and don't have his amiibo card, but i love his new outfit and house design!! i also really wanna have o'hare on my island at some point or maybe a couple of my other favorite smugs, at least for a while if not permanently, and raymond isn't even one of my top 3 faves of the new villagers though i do like him a lot. i think he just has a cute and interesting design (subjective, but clearly true for a lot of people) and is new and less attainable because of not having an amiibo card, so he's more hyped up and sought after atm!

I have Julian because he come in pair with Colton and my whole island is made so they can enjoy each other (I'm crazy I know) Marshal is super cute and I like him a lot, but he didn't make the cut this time around. I decided for Raymond because he is a cat and reminds me of a dear friend, who is also my coworker so he was made for my gameplay. But I will admit it's crazy how people will go to the 1000's for him. I was lucky enough to find a seller that gave him to me for 200 MNT and 2M IGB

i have raymond and to be honest, dobie's house has a similar setup but looks WAY better. not a fan of the office cat (i'd much rather have sherb) but hey, what can you do. he seems to be everywhere now and while he isn't mainstream in a lot of towns yet (probably because of the missing amiibo card), he soon will be and the market will be oversaturated by raymonds.

I went to someone's town to pick up a diy from Audie and her dazzling intense aura melted my face off. The new villagers were never in my radar but they do have quite the charm.

I knew Raymond was popular but not to this extent LOL
he happened to be the first campsite villager I got and I was p excited because I really wanted one of the new villagers (any, though Audie and Dom were my favorites from the bunch)
when I came back on TBT after a couple of years to see what was up with NH I was blown away by how much people were spending on him, he's truly the new Marshal

I think him not having an amiibo has a lot to do with it, because it's really just down to luck/RNG to get him while Marshal (and Julian, and other popular villagers) have more sure ways to get even if you don't own the card yourself
