Does each switch account get its own save file?

I was reading somewhere about New Horizon and it said something along the lines of ?Up to 4 players can play on one system?. Does this mean it is like New Leaf where 4 people would have to share the same town, or does each switch account get its own save file?

The reason I?m asking is because I will be sharing the game with my siblings and was hoping we don?t have to share the same island, like we did on New Leaf

Share the same town. You’d have to buy a new Switch to get different towns.

Yes you have to share your town sadly. I want also multiple towns but don't want to buy a new switch man xD

Yes it is confirmed. Here is an interview with IGN: https://ca.ign.com/articles/2019/06...layer-in-animal-crossing-new-horizons-e3-2019

You can create up to 8 players with different accounts. They all life on the same island. There is even a petition to change Nintendos mind about this issue.

Thanks for the link!

But that really, genuinely sucks. You would have thought they would have followed suit with all the other games on the switch and allowed each account to have their own island. I really hope that isn't the case when the game gets released but I can't say I have high hopes of it changing :/

Yeah it’s rather unfortunate. :(

Nintendo probably knows that a ton of hardcore Animal Crossing players (an oxymoron, I know) will buy another Switch/Switch Lite just to have a second town.

Since the question has been answered already, is this the only way to get new characters in your town? I wouldn't want to have to create multiple save files only for them to be spent money on.

It’s super annoying. It’s not even the fact that I want multiple islands, it’s the fact I wanted my own and not have to share with my siblings ):

I understand the feeling! While I don't mind sharing with my fiancee, I think it would be more fun if we could each have our own islands. And back in the previous games, sharing with my siblings was something I had to get used to.

Didn't know that there is also a petition for this, I only heard about the one for the Cloud Saves problem, which seems to have many supporters so far.

Ah, I forgot that each account needs it's own Nintendo Switch Online membership (unless you use the family pack thing). Now I sure hope that one person can create more than one character, otherwise I guess I will only do online stuff with my main character.

As stated it is one island per Switch. It would be a bit awkward if it didn't work this way. Someone here pointed out that the process for loading the game would be rather goofy if they hadn't done it this way:

Suppose you load up New Horizons. The Switch always asks you first: who's playing? So you select your profile and the game loads. It would be rather odd if the game then asks you again who you are. You would have a lot of strange paths of save files, like:
Profile A -> User A
Profile A -> User B
Profile B -> User A
Profile B -> User B

And so on. If you could have up to 8 players on each island and one possible save file for each profile on the Switch, that's 64 possible combinations to find the specific save file you want. Given the way Nintendo tends to think about things, I can see why they'd find this extremely awkward.

It's ****ing stupid. Like it made sense in GC because it was the limitations, but you could still shell out like ?10 for a new memory card. There is absolutely no reason why you shouldn't be allowed to have multiple islands. Nintendo just like money.

I believe strongly that its to prevent hacking (even though they will always find a way) of the software as all physical switch games are read only.

I mean, I had to power down my Nintendo switch before I could add a micro sd card in, I believe to prevent any corruption or in this case, an exploit of the system from what I read.

Let’s remember that there is a company that literally sells AR/Cheat codes of all Nintendo games in the past providing you had a physical copy of the game, only because the saves were on the cart (at least for the DS era) GameCube had a CD and the Wii I believe had a sd form, and I guess this is probably why there won’t be an option to save data to an sd card as it can be manipulated which sucks, but what can you do.

Sorry about that, I went on a bit of a tangent there....I just wanted to let people know of a reason, other than greed...

I don't buy it. No Switch game saves on the cart, there is no save battery. There are so many other precautions you could use.

Wow. You have to spend 500 bucks on a new console to have another island.

What I can't fathom, is being confined to the one console because that is where the data is stored.

This needs to go back to games saving to the cart. The way the 3ds did.

well, it is more like 299.99 usd + tax, still pretty expensive (the price of 4-5 new condition switch games)
