Does it matter which map we choose?

Will the map we choose have an affect on our island? I'm a bit confused... ( ?᷄ὤ?᷅)は？
Or are those maps for people who won't be changing anything? ﾅｨ(･д･=･д･)ﾅｨ

People won't be able to change their layout until they've unlocked the building permit. I'd assume its to have a more personable map until you can make it your own. Or for people who are overwhelmed with terraforming and want to see different auto generated options.

I guess it’s just a starting point. But it isn’t such a huge decision like previous games. I reset for hours in new leaf for the perfect map. So glad I won’t have to reset anymore. I can change what I don’t like.

Oh yeah didn’t think about the fruit lol. Guess back to resetting. I’m fine with anything but pears.

We don't really know how long it will be until we can terraform, or what the limit of terraforming even is. I won't be resetting, but the island you get might be a layout you're stuck with for quite awhile.

Wait is anything other than triangle grass confirmed? I can't recall seeing anything else. Please correct me if I'm wrong!

I think it will matter to a point. You'll be using the island you pick, likely for a while, since you first need to unlock the Island Designer app, which appears to be quite a large process to go through. I can't see you getting it in the first month of gameplay, for sure.

Not to mention, we don't know the extent of the landscaping to the island itself we can do. I imagine we'll have extraordinary freedom, but we don't know this for sure. Depending how much freedom we do or don't have, our selected island may have some use or not.

in a way, no, since we’ll eventually be able to terraform our islands - but we’ll need the permit for that and i’m not quite sure how long that’ll take to unlock.

but with that factor out, i guess once you can start terraforming, the only thing that really matters is the placement of the resident services tent unless you’ll be able to move that at some point, too.

Maybe lazy people? Choose a map, then edit it. Not saying that people who don't flatten their whole town and then change it are lazy, just saying that the less dedicated people wouldn't want to do that. It's nice to chill and just tweak the terrain a little and not do very much. Especially people who aren't very creative.

I'm just really hoping there are maps that divide into two and not multiple. I couldn't be on one of those.

I know eventually we can change it, but I honestly couldn't wait that long being on an island with that many splits.

Maybe we won't be able to relocate the residential area? Seems like they start at different places like the town plaza.

I’m also thinking the residence service plaza might not be movable. That’d be a shame though, considering how it’s big enough to get in the way of a lot of landscaping later on.

It'll matter at first because it looks like the town has to be expanded/upgraded so that could be a couple weeks or months. I don't plan on resetting for fruit and things.

That would make it hard to plant palms the way I used to.

I figured these would be locked; do you think that river sources and exits will be locked in as well? That would change what I am looking for in a map. I would like to have more developed and less developed area of my island, and so I figure I might have to reset to get my dock/plaza/airport close to each other and my grassy cliff and secret beach farther away from that. If I'm also worrying about river sources and exits that may take awhile.
