Does the upgraded Resident Services pick up the game?

All in all, I'm having fun with the game, but it feels so slow and my villagers talk as if I'm still in tutorial mode. For reference, my tent is under construction and will be upgraded tomorrow. I'm really hoping I will have more to do after the change.

Definitely. You get access to bridge and incline construction as well as the campsite. It also triggers the "quest" for KK Slider.

And you get a special visitor the first day that the RS / town hall is built.

It triggers the next 'story' event, and puts a lot on the table in that regard. You also get a lot more to purchase with Nook Miles, and it is also the point where you can unlock Able Sisters.
