Does weather happen when you're not there?

So, I've been hoping it rains on my island because there are some flowers I'm hoping clone and fill in some spots. When it gets cloudy, I make sure to stay until the rain starts but do I have to? It's a reason I've been wishing we had a weather report so I knew when it was going to rain, for flowers and for fishing.

If you quit your game before the rain starts I don't think your plants get watered, but I can't confirm

You have to input a lot of data to get your seed, but it's great for knowing when it will rain.
(best way is to take a screenshot whenever you see unique weather like double rainbows and unique cloud formations)

Yes, you need to. I remember dealing with this awhile back and you actively need to be in the game and outside when it rains for all your flowers to get watered for that day. However, you only need to do it for like a minute, then you can save and quit and everything will be good.

I could be wrong but I think weather only changes each hour.
So if its like 3:20, and it's not raining, it won't rain for another 40 minutes at least.
