Seriously, it's not worth the pain and frustration. They will just refuse to put the furniture in their original place. You'll just end up making it 10 times worse.

I've been giving and sending Felicity here items to try and replace the clothing she's been displaying, but she ended up moving stuff around and I kept giving her stuff to raise the chance she moves them to the right spot... as you can see, that is not the case. The state of her house is worse than before!

Thankfully I have her amiibo card. I'll be planning to kick and invite her back after the 23rd (I'm hoping either her, Kyle or Bones throw my birthday party and villagers need near max friendship to have a chance in doing so). Losing all that friendship progress is a bummer, but I can't walk into her home without laughing and cringing at the 3 birdbaths at display.

Learn from my mistake, especially if you don't have easy access to replacing them, small damage is better than possibly making it much much worse.
I definitely won't be messing with Bones and Eugene now that I've gone through this experience.

Forget a QoL update, I just want to be able to reset villager's homes now.

I'm always so scared of ruining my villagers houses >_< I avoid giving them furniture because I'm worried theyll display it in a weird spot or something

On the bright side, your friendship levels must be through the roof!

I kind of wish they'd give us a Happy Home Designer like chance to occasionally just... design our neighbors' interiors. Like, I love Marina, I'm thrilled I just got her, but I'd give almost anything to make her a full-on mermaid home. BUT I'm scared to try and get her to replace the items because, as we can see, villagers don't have great design sense 😛

It would be SUPER neat, maybe as a reward for reaching the top friendship level, to be able to design their homes. I doubt we'll ever get that, but BOY would it be cool...

Ive had to fix quite a few of my villagers houses. It is a pain but eventually I was able to fix them. I cannot understand why we cant get a reset button for their houses. Especially since they made gift giving such a major part of gameplay with villagers. And whats up with not programming villagers to put items correctly in houses?? The amount of times they have put items backwards is ridiculous.

I legit thought I ruined Coco's house when I gave her funny glasses to wear (which she displayed in her house instead), and she bought a cute lamp from me because I can't turn my girl down. I gave her a plant to try to replace something and it ended up duplicating itself and replaced the lamp, the glasses, and a third spot in her house.

I was very confused but relieved cause the plant looked so good there. Then she bought a koi from me and it took over one of the plants' spots now. LOL

I would give anything for something like this! A great reward for hitting max friendship I'd say. An option can easily pop up while they're in their home. You can design using everything that's in your catalog and spend the bells to buy everything (for crafted items, you provide the materials). It'll take a day for their interior to change to the one you design for them. Sounds like a great solution to me. 😩

Thanks for the tip!

THIS. I would love this since I seriously loved HHD; even a limited amount of options to decorate or move furniture around in villager’s homes would be nice.

From my experience, if you want the original items back, you have to gift it one by one (don't mail a big batch) and it has to be the exact color.

Some items you may just have to live it if there was no original item there, or you could try to replace that first. I've ruined, fixed , and ruined Flora's house a few times. 😅

I've tried to do both ways of gifting and neither are working out. I attempted to replace the two "free" spots that clothing were displayed at, using the bear and gnome. She replaced one of the cypress plants with the bear, tried giving her the same colored cypress plant and she replaces the birdbath instead, give her the same birdbath she had and she replaced that with something else in the room. It just snowballed out of control. Tried mailing her one of each item she keeps replacing and that didn't take well either. I love her, but she's not getting the memo at all. :']

Thank you for the warning!

At least her house is pretty funny right now 😅 She just seems like she wants to be realllllly nice to birds :p And the garden gnome looks like he's telling off the bear, whose ignoring him and staring into the corner.

Right? Even if it wasn't always an option, but like a rare occurrence where they're just like "man, I just can't get inspired by my decor anymore... any ideas?" or even if they suggested something and if you were like "nah" they could say, "Okay, show me what YOU'D do" and then, just like when you suggest your own nickname, you'd show them and they'd be like "IT'S PERFECT"

It'd be game changing 🤩
...but it's also so far removed from the amount of power we've had in any previous main series game that I'm not getting my hopes up 😕

Okay, I didn't see the gnome/bear thing before, but now I can't unsee it 🤣

That is why i miss buying their furniture in nl. It used to leave an open spot and if you gifted them something from the same size it would end up there. It might still be harder in nh even if they brought this back, because like you said they move furniture around, and have a storage too. It has its pros and cons.

Might as well mention here again that if you gift them too many hanging items—which they can’t display—you will fill their inventory and begin removing their furniture. Before I realized it had happened, Audie had removed her tabletop items because I had flooded her inventory. In that case, I could have fixed it by giving her the correct items, but I mistakenly gave her a silver tape deck instead of a white and it went back into a permanent spot on the floor.

And, yes, if we could buy a piece of furniture, I could have removed that wrong tape deck.

But she also removed her hanging wall fan. :(

I was able to get Audie's place back to normal (besides the free space), but it took a few tries and it definitely seems random.

I am pretty careful about what gifts I choose, but I'm trying not to let it bother me if an item ends up in the wrong spot. It’s understandable to prefer to keep the houses original or near original, and I feel that way with certain houses. I really like giving gifts though, and it's fun to see them displayed when they put the items in the right places. Even when they don't, well - it's the thought the counts, right? haha

Even Wild World allowed you to change a villagers wall and floor via mailing.
