Edit: Now at 5 stars!

Hi everyone! I started a new island quite a few months back, since the 2.0 update I have been giving it a lot of attention and working really hard on it.
I have:
- lots of paths
- pretty much finished terraforming (I started by flattening my island)
- lots of fencing
- inclines/bridges
- different breeds of flowers with some hybrids coming through- there are two colourful watering cans per day worth of flowers
- At least 1 of every fruit tree + lots of cedar trees
- A full farm
- TONS of decorating/items
- 10 villagers
- Everything unlocked and upgraded ages ago (I clearly must've managed to get 3 stars at some point)
- Fully upgraded house + exterior

BUT... I still only have a 2 star island. Isabelle always tells me to either plant more trees or flowers so I plant more everyday. Nothing changes, always the same 'natural environment' feedback. Is there a glitch? or do I really need THAT many trees and flowers.

If someone has exact numbers of each I need I'd love to know or if someone could visit my island and confirm that there aren't enough flowers and trees I'd love to know. I'm clearly missing something or my game is broken.

A lot of the stuff you've mentioned don't actually contribute at all (i.e. having diff. breeds of flowers, terraforming, farming - unless points from farming changed with 2.0, not sure on this one), and I think the clutter info on that guide is outdated now, but the rest of the guide should still be accurate.

TLDR if Isabelle is telling you to plant more trees/flowers, it's probably honestly that. You might also need more DIY items or something since those also count towards the scenery score!

Thank you, much appreciated! I already have a lot of diy items out (furniture of all kinds everywhere really) and have been planting new trees and flowers everyday as per Isabelle's feedback. Guess I'll just have to keep going, I can't see anything else stopping me from getting at least 3 stars. I'm also wanting to keep the flowers under control though so once I have a very large number of hybrids I am going to be putting them in designated fenced areas, hopefully that won't put me back down again.

Do you have any hardwood, palm, and bamboo trees? Maybe try planting some of those if you don't have any.

I have lots of hardwood and palm but 0 bamboo trees. I'll try and find some of those and plant them too! Thanks for the suggestion!

Yeah honestly so am I. On my original island I had far less (at least I'm pretty sure) and had 3-4 stars. idk

do you have weeds growing? those subtract from the town rating so make sure you’re weed free!

Maybe if you have lots of items dropped on the ground, not displayed, it counts as litter. Though I think Isabelle might mention that before mentioning trees and flowers, so I don't know.

I have 0 weeds and 0 dropped items (not even tree branches), I honestly have no idea how I have such a low rating. It's baffling

Wow. I cannot believe your stuck on 2 stars. From what you say, you definitely have the qualifications for at least 3. Hmm. Maybe an orchard for all the foreign trees might help. You can make the section all nice and decorated, too. Best if those items outside are actual outside items since that’ll give you some extra points.

Wait, if you're able to terraform, then your island had to be at least three stars at some point, since, if I recall correctly, three stars are required to unlock it. Are you saying that you got the island rating up to three stars and then it went back down to two after the fact?

Precisely that- it's what led me to believe it might be a glitch of some kind.

It might not be, one thing in a different spot is enough to change the rating. I stopped caring about my rating after unlocking the ability to terraform.

I've been stuck on two stars as well and I'm following all the guidance. I never have anything left on the ground because it personally drives me crazy. I can't stand a bunch of trees and flowers but I will do it for the rating for now. I can never seem to get any roses and I don't mean special colors. I just want roses because I don't like any of the other flowers I really don't I hate hate hate bamboo but if I have to have it I will. The other thing is I keep reading that you get the island designer app which then unlocks paths and terraforming AFTER KK does his concert thing. Or does the Island Designer app Tom Nook gives you unlock paths & other items?
