Earlier that day, I was (kinda) part of a discussion with two friends, who discussed
which show is better: Elementary or (BBC) Sherlock. I was kinda shocked as the
whole discussion escalated when both started to bring out facts of why the other
show sucks. Well, I wasn't able to say my opinion now which show is better or not,
I only wachted the first season of both and then stop to watch them, so I don't
know how they developed over the time. :/

However, it would be interesting to hear what you guys thinking. So, which show
do you prefer: Elementary or Sherlock?

i haven't watched elementary but i hear it's good even if it is a bit more 'fluffier' (is that the word?). sherlock started good but it got absolutely ridiculous, the plot was dumb and over the top, the characters were unlikeable (i was happy when mary died and they legit can't bring moriarty back as a cliff hanger IN EVERY EPISODE), just generally got really pretentious and stupid, which is a shame bc it was good to begin with.

I absolutely LOVE Sherlock, and have recently started the binge watch Elementary on Foxtel.

Elementary isn't bad at all, but I have to go with Sherlock.

It's far superior.

Benedict Cumberbatch has the dry wit you'd expect from Sherlock, and just plain hilarious!

As someone, who used to be a big fan of Sherlock, I'm just disappointed of how the show
turned out. While season one and two are ok, season three was meh. And season four was
nothing but just a giant pile of trash. The story was so weird and confusing (at least for me),
too many plot holes, the whole twist with Sherlock having a super crazy sister... And then
there was Mary.

To be honest here, never in my life I hated a fictional character so much as Mary Watson
(or whatever that woman's real name is/was). She already annoyed me in season three,
in season four I was so glad when they killed her off (yeah I know, that sounds harsh),
because I couldn't stand her anymore. But nope, since some characters can't stay just
dead without coming back in any way (looking at you, Moriarty), they have to bring
her back as a "ghost" and in form of those DVDs she sent. And if this is not enough,
she had to had the last words in the final of the show with that cringy speech.
"My Baker Street boys" (I had to re-watch that clip again, as I thought she would
say "My Backstreet boys") and then Sherlock and John running out of that building
in slow motion like Batman and Robin. That's where I dropped the show and never
cared about it anymore. Season four was just bad, really bad. And I was upset,
upset over the fact that I wasted my time for this trash.

Overall, the show had potential to become pretty good, too bad the creators turned
it into this mess. I don't care if there is ever gonna be a season five, looks like there
will not be any other season (at least for now) since Martin Freeman (the guy who
played John Watson in the show) said in a interview that he's glad that he can make
a break from Sherlock and that he's also annoyed by the fans (which is no wonder,
some people in that fandom took everything way too serious). (Note: Sorry to those
Sherlock fans, who love the show and think it's not that bad. I respect your opinion
and you can of course disagree with my post if you want.)

Oh, and as for Elementary: Can't really say anything about it, I only watched one or
two episodes of it, so don't know how good or bad it is.

i like elementary more, bbc sherlock feels a lot like the tv show version of a person who thinks theyre more intellectual and special than everyone else and has ”well achtually...” as their catchphrase

I've only watched a smidge of Sherlock and it seemed interesting enough, I always meant to look into Elementary because Lucy Lui is just one of those actors that's so unique that I wanted to see how she'd do in it. I'm not huge on Sherlock Holmes in general, I mean I've watched a few movies but it's not a huge grabber for me in the first place.

Not a fan of Elementary on principal, writing (cringe-worthy as it is) aside. I had problems with it pretty much straight out of the starting gate, to be frank.

The creators of the show constantly insinuating Watson needs to be a woman for romantic or sexual tension to exist is garbage enough, but that's just one piece of the pie. The characters are all husks of the source material, the actors have zero chemistry as an onscreen duo and it feels immensely dumbed down.

Sherlock wins out for me because, while every season beyond the first is quite awful, their banter was very reminiscent of the books early on. I can appreciate that.

Of course, it goes without saying that these are my opinions! If Elementary brings you joy, more power to you. :lemon:

I just like Sherlock because it follows the source material better, imo. Though I have yet to see the 4th season (I didn't have cable when it originally aired), and I've been avoiding it because I have not heard good things.

i've never watched elementary, though i heard it's quite good. i used to be a huge fan of sherlock. like others in the thread have said, seasons 1 and 2 were the best. i didn't even finish season 4, it couldn't keep my attention and it wasn't very good.
i loved the show. though the way they treated their female characters was so.... not good lol. it also got kind of overhyped, especially ben c lol. he played the character well, though, and i love martin freeman as watson. i loved molly though, too, i really wish they'd treated her better :(
anyways, i've heard good things about elementary. maybe i'll give it a watch sometime.

(also, dai gyakuten saiban has the best interpretation of sherlock holmes, in my opinion. plus watson being a 10 year old girl lmfao.)
