Error Code: 018-0516

My 3DS is actively refusing to connect to my home router, so I've had to use hotspots from my phone and/or iPad. While the 3DS can connect to the internet, and I can message others with the Best Friends function and look for towns to visit, once Porter dispatches a train, I get the error code 018-0516 - "Failed to connect to partner's device."

Is there something in my connections settings that's blocking access to my friends' towns? If so, what can I do to tinker with the settings, etc. and fix this? I missed my friends' New Leaf reunion and I'm super disappointed about that. I'm hoping to find a solution to my Wifi woes so I can schedule another reunion.

Have you guys seen this error code before, and if so, what have you done to fix it?

I am not exactly sure, but I have played the game for a while. Sometimes my internet would act up and refuse to connect to the other 3DS. I would just move closer to the router lol. Another problem could be your partner’s device and the same thing could happen. If you or your friend has multiple wifis, sometimes the device would connect to the wrong one, making your connections slower. You could always check your settings in this case. I was also having trouble connecting to the wifi because my 3DS was about 9 years old and a draining battery. You could try fixing it by buying a new battery.
