Hello all,
As of late there have been a lot of "leaks" going around on the internet. More often than not, leaks are fake. Sometimes websites will create or publish fake information knowing that it will bring in a lot of ad revenue. Other times, people simply get bored and want to see if their fake content can generate a lot of traction online.
When you run across a leak, you should consider whether or not it is actually worth sharing. When you share a leak that is not real, you are playing into the hands of fake leakers by generating false hope for yourself and encouraging more people to write fake leaks. In the vast majority of cases, a leak is not worth sharing. Even if a leak was real, you have no way of knowing that until game information from Nintendo actual comes out. It is best not to waste your time.
Fake leaks are often relatively easy to spot. If the leak is a script or schedule of a trailer or Nintendo Direct, look for inconsistent formatting or spelling mistakes. Poorly written game names are also dead giveaways. If the leak is a long list of games, it is unlikely to be legit. Lastly, remember that Nintendo is aiming to please its audience with its game reveals. If the first thing that a leak mentions is the downsides or removal of features in the new game, it is not real. Game companies always lead with exciting and new features when announcing the game to ensure people get interested and excited.
Remember that the sheer amount of fake leaks posted here degrades the quality of discussion. I think a single leak megathread could be useful so that cool game suggestions and speculation isn't clouded by the leaks.
Thanks for reading!
