I feel like I should ask. πŸ˜„

My personal favorite is Luke 23:39-43 (NIV). Jesus is hanging on the cross beside two criminals:

"One of the criminals who hung there hurled insults at him: 'Aren't you the Christ? Save yourself and us!'

But the other criminal rebuked him. 'Don't you fear God?' he said, 'since you are under the same sentence? We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong.'

Then he said, 'Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.'

Jesus answered him, 'I tell you the truth, today you shall be with me in paradise.'"

Please feel free to share yours!

i'm agnostic but have read parts of the bible, i know this is a popular verse so maybe this is cliche but idk this description seems so apt and i don't think any other definition comes close

1 Corinthians 13:4-8

4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.

A reading from Matthew 20:1-16 two weeks ago struck a chord with me and it is still on my mind.

Matthew 20:1-16 (NIV) said:
β€œFor the kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went out early in the morning to hire workers for his vineyard. He agreed to pay them a denarius for the day and sent them into his vineyard.

β€œAbout nine in the morning he went out and saw others standing in the marketplace doing nothing. He told them, β€˜You also go and work in my vineyard, and I will pay you whatever is right.’ So they went. β€œHe went out again about noon and about three in the afternoon and did the same thing. About five in the afternoon he went out and found still others standing around. He asked them, β€˜Why have you been standing here all day long doing nothing?’ β€œβ€˜Because no one has hired us,’ they answered. β€œHe said to them, β€˜You also go and work in my vineyard.’ β€œWhen evening came, the owner of the vineyard said to his foreman, β€˜Call the workers and pay them their wages, beginning with the last ones hired and going on to the first.’ β€œThe workers who were hired about five in the afternoon came and each received a denarius. So when those came who were hired first, they expected to receive more. But each one of them also received a denarius. When they received it, they began to grumble against the landowner. β€˜These who were hired last worked only one hour,’ they said, β€˜and you have made them equal to us who have borne the burden of the work and the heat of the day.’ β€œBut he answered one of them, β€˜I am not being unfair to you, friend. Didn’t you agree to work for a denarius? Take your pay and go. I want to give the one who was hired last the same as I gave you. Don’t I have the right to do what I want with my own money? Or are you envious because I am generous?’

β€œSo the last will be first, and the first will be last.”

I love this thread,, so I have two. (It would have been three but like..I forgot to highlight one verse so I can't find it.) This one is kinda generic but it's my favorite.
"Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil."
The Lord's Pray is really nice,,
Then this other one is simple
"Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father is also merciful." Luke 6:36,, it's simple but reminds me to have mercy on humans even if they don't deserve it

this is a super cool thread, I'm glad to see there are other Christians in this community!!

I do read my Bible every night though I haven't gotten around to memorizing many verses lol. I guess my favorite is Philippians 4:13
"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me"

It's a nice verse to remember 'cuz sometimes I worry that I won't be able to do the things I want to do in the future (because of health problems or other hindrances) and remembering God's promises gives such a confidence boost. πŸ‘Œ ❀❀

That's a really good choice! ✨

Matthew 23:12

β€œWhoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.”

Proverbs 11:2

β€œWhen pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with the humble is wisdom.”

Personal favorites of mine.

I really like Isaiah 41:10 β€œDo not be afraid for I am with you. Do not be anxious for I am your God. I will fortify you, yes , I will help you, I will really hold on to you with my right hand of righteousness”

Also John 1:5 β€œAnd the light is shining in the darkness, but the darkness has not overpowered it.”

Personally I vibed with Psalm 1:1

Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers;

Not the whole quote, but y'all know it goes: believe in God and such. It's like, chill and worry about yourself.

Philippians 1:6 TLV
I am sure of this very thingβ€”that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the Day of Messiah Yeshua.
This verse is a comfort to me when I lose my way, get overwhelmed or make a regretful decision. It's a similar comfort to reading the 139th psalm.

The following passages about the new heaven and new earth comfort me too when I get really upset about the environmental decay going on or human and animal suffering. They help me look forward to the life to come rather than get too depressed about this one.

The Revelation 21:3‭-‬4 TLV
I also heard a loud voice from the throne, saying, β€œBehold, the dwelling of God is among men, and He shall tabernacle among them. They shall be His people, and God Himself shall be among them and be their God. He shall wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more. Nor shall there be mourning or crying or pain any longer, for the former things have passed away.”

Isaiah 11:6‭-‬9 TLV
The wolf will dwell with the lamb, the leopard will lie down with the kid, the calf and the young lion and the yearling together, and a little child will lead them. The cow and the bear will graze, their young ones lie down together, and the lion will eat straw like an ox. A nursing child will play by a cobra’s hole, and a weaned child will put his hand into a viper’s den. They will not hurt or destroy in all My holy mountain, for the earth will be full of the knowledge of Adonai, as the waters cover the sea.

I'm a very philosophical person who is always pondering the Big Questions, so Ecclesiastes is a favorite. Here is one of its great passages, chapter 3 verses 1-8:

"There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens:

a time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot,
a time to kill and a time to heal,
a time to tear down and a time to build,
a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,
a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,
a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing,
a time to search and a time to give up,
a time to keep and a time to throw away,
a time to tear and a time to mend,
a time to be silent and a time to speak,
a time to love and a time to hate,
a time for war and a time for peace."

That's one of my favorites too! And also
Isaiah 26:3

β€œThou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.”

Ecclesiastes is a favorite of mine too. Nice.

Personally I don't really memorize verses but I marked down a few a while ago that I really like.

Romans 7:6 "But now we are released from the law, having died to that which held us captive, so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit and not in the old way of the written code."
Proverbs 10:12 "Hatred stirs up strife, but love covers all offenses."
Isaiah 58:10 "Behold, you fast only to quarrel and to fight and to hit with a wicked fist. Fasting like yours this day will not make your voice to be heard on high."
Matthew 15:11 "It is not what goes into the mouth that defiles a person, but what comes out of the mouth; this defiles a person."

As far as Psalms go, 51 and 146 are my favorites.

β€œThomas, because you have seen Me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” - John 20:29

This one really stuck out to me. It really is amazing we believe all Jesus has done for us through faith. It's something that's hard to explain. It's a feeling of hope I guess I would describe it. A shining light in this world that I will follow until the end.

My all-time favorite is Isaiah 43:2 (NIV).
Isaiah 43:2 (NIV) said:
When you pass through the waters,
I will be with you;
and when you pass through the rivers,
they will not sweep over you.
When you walk through the fire,
you will not be burned;
the flames will not set you ablaze.

It reminds me of not just the Lord Himself but me, as well. I will always be there for my friends, I will always be there for my family... I won't let anyone harm the people I cherish. And I know the Lord won't, either. So, it comforts me.

There is alot of things I like. But I suppose I will say Psalm 91 although parts of it is often a little misunderstood.
