Pokémon Favourite Scarlet/Violet Gym Leader?

Now that the game has been out for a week I think we can talk about this without spoilers...

Gym Leaders are usually an important part of any Pokemon game. Which is your favourite in Scarlet and Violet?

Mine has to be Larry, the Exceptional Everyman. The fact that he is a type specialist for two types is pretty interesting. His attitude toward life is also pretty interesting as well. I like how he views his boss and that we eventually discover the identity of his boss. Ryme would have to be a close second.

Larry is one of my favourite gym leaders of all time. I like that he's not enthusiastic or over the top like most of the other gym leaders tend to be. I'm sure it's intentional, but he just feels a lot more real than most of the other characters in the game.

Iono! I love that we finally have another Electric type gym leader. Not to mention I love her design as well, it's really out there.

I’m tempted to say Kofu as a water type fan, but as mentioned above Larry seems to be the most realistic person in the game. The others just seem, well, unrealistic and way over the top.

Kofu has a nice color scheme and reminds me a lot of the water type gym leader in Sinnoh design wise, whose name is slipping my mind right now. Overall, though, I am going to go with Larry.

And idk why everyone so far besides myself is picking Larry... he honestly seems boring and forgettable to me. To each their own though.

I think it has to do with the fact that Larry is somewhat relatable, although we’re all going to relate to different characters. Playing through the game, Larry was the leader who stood out to me the most. Being one of the later gym leaders you encounter his demeanor just seemed different, but in a good way, I guess.

The way he interacts with people such as you or his boss makes him seem more human because this can happen in real life. The other gym leaders just seem like celebrities or written way over the top, and seem somewhat exaggerated.

I'm with most people in saying Larry is my favorite gym leader this generation although I like Brassius, Kofu, Ryme, and Iona too in terms of having memorable designs. Most of the others aren't quite as memorable.

The fire team star admin is memorable if just for the boots lol.

I think Katy would be my favorite.
I just love her whole aesthetic and her color palette. The mixture of pastries and insect type gives me a bit of a weird feeling but for some reason I like it.

I also really enjoyed Larry. When I saw the normal gym on the map I was like... huh? Like why would they do a normal gym, that's boring.
And then I saw him... and then I saw what he had to say, and I was sold. This is so clever and fun while also being a bit too real, I like it.

It's easily Larry for me. He really manages to stand out by, well, not standing out.

I think my favorite Gym Leader in Paldea would have to either be Ryme or Iono.

Ryme stood out due to the Double Battle format of her gym, her being a Ghost-type trainer is cool and I like her moniker of being the MC of RIP. I also really loved the little Greavard dancing on the speaker system during her battle.

Meanwhile, I'm not really into the streaming scene (I watch some people in particular, but generally not huge names on the platforms) but I quite like Iono's design, gimmick and personality. What can I say? My eyeballs are HERS, caught in her Electroweb. She's right.

I also want to give an honorable mention to Brassius. I have a soft spot for him both because he's a Grass-type trainer, which is my favorite type, but also because he bears a striking resemblance to Hubert, my favorite character from Fire Emblem: Three Houses and Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes. That's not enough to get him above Ryme or Iono, but yeah. I did enjoy his friendship with Hassel and how they call each other Hass and Brassie though.

As for the others? I like Larry like everyone else, just not as much. I like Grusha's design. Katy is pretty forgettable on her own but she bears a number of similarities to someone I know so she gets bonus points. Vaultin' Veluza do I not have much to say about Kofu. Finally, I haven't fought Tulip yet since my adventure didn't take me down to where her gym was and I took on Grusha and Ryme 6th and 7th respectively since I could just knock out those two and head up to take out Ortega's Team Star base all in a row. She's got a nice design and I'll probably like her, but I don't see myself liking her more than Ryme or Iono anyhow.

For me it's either Iono or Larry (although I haven't battled Larry yet, but he has a good design and concept and I hear he's cool). The Iono zone theme is one of the best in the game for sure. I also really love Iono's hair and peppy, energetic personality!

They all seem a bit uninteresting to me, honestly. I’d probably say Ryme though, she seems pretty cool. Most ghost type users are usually creepy or spooky or have some type of lore, but Ryme is one who puts off rap shows that “wake the dead.” Also, I love how they gave her the Undertaker eyes lmao

I love Larry. He’s so relatable and just eternally tired of everything. His team is fun to fight too.

Ryme is my second favorite, if only because her gym has a dancing Greavard. Her team was way too easy to beat though. She should’ve put her ace last and had them use last respects. The damage it would deal would’ve been insane.

I'm super late to respond to this, mainly because I was debating whether or not to respond to it in the first place, but wouldn't say being "forgettable" is exactly a compliment. Boring? Maybe, you got me there. I can see why people like him though. To each their own.

Ryme left the biggest impression on me so I have to go with her. I was legitimately laughing and smiling all throughout our interaction and her animations reminded me a lot of Team Skull from Sun/Moon and how much I enjoyed those guys, the way the grunts threw gang signs around while spitting game trying to be all gangster lol had rap battles really been a thing, the whole scene with her and that one generic NPC who tried dethroning her would have played out like an episode of Nick Cannon Presents: Wild 'n Out and I was definitely all for it. The dancing Greavard, however, was the obvious star of the show, what a groovy pup! Overall, the whole experience was memorable, a ton of personality and a lot of fun, even if the gym battle itself was lackluster. It was cool to have a double battle gym fight again, though, just like RSE's Tate and Liza and SwSh's Raihan.

I also do like how Ryme and Tyme are siblings and how both are really passionate about their Type specialty, but before learning that I had a theory about Tyme working as both a teacher and a gym leader, where during the day she would be our math teacher Ms. Tyme but at night would become the hip-hopping queen Ryme. That certainly would have been a fun twist!

Mmmm, Iono is pretty fun too, a lot of personality there, that's for sure lol
