For those of you who's first AC is New Horizons, I have an interesting challenge for you, although it doesn't involve NH.....

The challenge is, play an older AC game. Any will do, I will even permit New Leaf. The point of the challenge is to just play the older game, and note down how it compares to NH, the good, the bad, what you miss from NH, what you want to return in NH, etc.

Then, just report your findings back here. I'm curious to see the results. Have fun!

I wanna see the first time players react to the dialogue from gamecube compared to the dialogue from new horizons LOL. Googling "animal crossing rudeness" and watching ‎jvgsjeff's videos on it is so funny.

Also resetti "erasing" your game if you reset too many times.. Or your face turning into a gyroid.. Oh my goodnes.. I was so scared I cried! New players will never know the feeling, but maybe thats better for them.. :D

I recommend City Folk (Let's Go To The City). I think a lot of the drama surrounding New Horizons may be coming from people who played New Leaf as their first AC game. I would recommend going further back. Since City Folk is an enhanced version of Wild World it comes down to

City Folk or Gamecube version.

Gamecube might be a little bit of a turn off to new comers today as the loading of acres might seem a little weird.

Well I'm allowing New Leaf because I'm curious if everyone person to ever play NL thinks it's better than NH. Personally never understood New Leaf's popularity, but I haven't really met someone of the same opinion (yet). I'm not say NL is bad, I just preferred the older titles, especially City Folk. It's a shame it was the Wii, because my Dad liked to hog the TV.

I think a lot of people like NL because it’s the most exploitable amongst all the games. There’s a lot of workarounds such as plot resetting, PWP farming, amiibo invites, and even town hacking. I remember some people even got paid for hacking towns / landscaping towns via hacks. For real life money. Now that’s all gone and that’s why a lot of people could be ranting.

For me, it was just the fact that it was another Animal Crossing game. I've played hundreds of hours for years on titles before New Leaf, so I was excited about the release of New Leaf, and enjoyed like I have with all games. Until Nintendo gives up on Animal Crossing, I will be excited for every new mainline game, and enjoy them all.

TBF though, the amiibo functionality didn't happen until 2016, nearly 3 years after the game's release.

Wild World was just as exploitable by the way. Map editor and all.
