Sorry if this was answered before, couldn't find it, but does anyone know how many fish there are, how many bugs there are, and how many fossils there are?

I thought I read somewhere there's 80 of each fish and bug, but I'm not too sure :)

I recall one of the reviews stating there were 80 fish and 80 bugs. No clue on fossils, though.

DiamCreeper23 on Twitter posted the pastebin for the fish, insects, and fossils: here. I went though it and found what I think are all the new ones.

Australopithecus (one piece and seems to have replaced Peking Man)
Anomalocaris (one piece)
Brachiosaurus (four pieces and seems to have replaced Apatosaurus)
Deinonychus (three pieces and seems to have replaced Velociraptor)
Megalodon (two pieces)
Ophthalmosaurus (two pieces and seems to have replaced Ichthyosaur)
Quetzalcoatlus (three pieces)
Dunkleosteus (one piece)
Myllokunmingia (one piece)
Eusthenopteron (one piece)
Acanthostega (one piece)
Juramaia (one piece)
Giraffe Stag
Madagascan sunset moth
Man-faced stink bug
Rosalia batesi beetle
Damselfly
Paper kite butterfly
Giant water bug
Great purple emperor
Blue weevil beetle (there are no weevil species called blue weevil beetles, so I don't know what species they had in mind without a in-game picture.)
Common bluebottle

The birdwing, longhorn beetle, Raja Brooke butterfly, and dung beetle seem to be renamed to the Queen Alexandra's birdwing, citrus long-horned beetle, Rajah Brooke's birdwing, and earth-boring dung beetle.

I like the additions here. “Giraffe stag” seems like it could be another expensive island bug.

"Common Bluebottle" and "Blue Weevil Beetle" are also a new bugs to add to that list just fyi.

are fish, fossils, bugs, shells, the only things we collect?

Crazy Redd and his art gallery items haven't been confirmed yet, and will likely be implemented in a later update, if at all. For now, it seems Bugs, Fish, Fossils, and crafting items / furniture will be all we collect so far. And Bells / Nook Miles, obviously. Also, Diving probably won't be implemented right away, so maybe at some point the Fish collection will expand to include deep-sea critters, but that's just speculation at this point.

The updated fish list should look something like this:

Ranchu Goldfish

Snapping Turtle

Rainbowfish

Betta

Golden Trout

Sturgeon

Anchovy

Suckerfish

Barreleye

Mahi-mahi

The barbel steed, regular eel, and rainbow trout seem to have all been removed. I don't think the new "rainbowfish" is the same thing.

I had everything, but the sturgeon on my list (which I just added, thanks again!). Now that I think about it, you're probably right about the rainbowfish, so I add that too!

For anyone interested, I've add links to each animal's wiki page in my original post if you're curious about what they look like/are! :D

Yes, the rainbowfish is a freshwater fish near the equator in the Indian Ocean while the rainbow trout is in temperate climates around the Americas, Oceania and Europe :p
