Hey guys, I've put together a guide for the fishing tourney.
C.J gives you a 3 minute countdown to catch as many fish as you can to score points. Those points can be converted into prizes. There are 13 fish tourney themed items in total.
In addition, you can also win trophies if you collect enough points. 100 points nets you the bronze trophy, 200 for silver and finally 300 total points will earn you the grand prize; the gold fish trophy.
So that’s a lot of incentive to take part in the fish tourney. I have been able to catch 10 fish within this time limit so I want to share my hints and tips with you.
1. Use bait.
You will not be able to catch as many as 10 fish within 3 minutes without using bait. To collect bait, you need to find manilla clams along your shore line. They give away their location by spraying a jet of water. Use a shovel to dig them up. Once you unearth your first manilla clam, you will learn the recipe to make bait. Head over to your nearest workbench and turn all of the clams into bait. I recommend crafting at least 10. Once the tournament starts, stand next to the edge of a body of water and scatter the bait. This will produce a fish shadow for you to catch.
2. Find the perfect location.
C.J gives you a couple of seconds head start to run to a suitable fishing location before he starts the timer. You need to find a good spot with good visibility which isn’t too far away from the plaza. I chose the nearest shoreline. If you have the terraforming skill unlocked, you could create a body of water right next to the plaza. This will reduce travel time even further.
3. Have your tools prepared.
When you start the tournament, make sure you have a fishing rod equipped. You also need to know it has at least 10 uses before it breaks. You don’t need to craft anything fancy, the very basic flimsy fishing rod will last for 10 uses. Another recommendation is to use the tool wheel. Assign your prepared rods to the wheel for easy access.
4. Close your eyes
If you’re struggling to catch fish because you pull back your rod too early or too slow, I suggest you try closing your eyes. Sometimes visuals can be distracting. If you listen to the sound of the fish nibbling, it will make a distinctive noise when they actually bite. I swear by this method. It really helps me.
5. Aim in front of the nose
Aiming your fishing rod is vital for catching those fish quickly. You want the fish to bite instantly so the bobber needs to land just in front of their nose. I found that as long as I scattered my bait facing directly up, down or to the sides and not at an angle, I could throw my line immediately and the bobber would land just in front of the fish.
So there are all my fishing tourney tips. I hope you manage to catch lots of fish. Good luck out there and happy fishing!
