Hello everyone. I am new at the game, and I have recently got into flower breeding. But it’s not working! For example to get a pink windflower is 100%. But now after a week I haven’t even got it? I know for sure I am doing everything right (flowers from nooks cranny seeds for example). Does anyone have got the same problems or know how to solve it? Btw sorry for my English :)

I’ve been playing for 8 months and have just recently had the same problem since the update watering every day also but nothing. It’s happening with all types of flowers. Very annoying

How are you positioning your flowers?
I've had the most luck using at least 4 flowers positioned in a diamond shape. Also, how many flowers are you using? It may seem basic but more flowers = more flower breeding. Sometimes it just takes a while

As others have said, the beautiful island ordinance makes this process easier.

Hello! Welcome to the game!

Using seeds from Nooks Cranny is actually the best. But even watering flowers for a week doesn't guarantee a hybrid. There is a hidden counter that increases each time you water the flower, and watering for a week still only gives you around 25% chance of the flowers reproducing.

To speed things up, you can have visitors also water your flowers. You can also enact the Beautiful Island Ordinance. Make sure you're not digging up the flowers, because that resets the water counter.

And your English is great! Many people on this forum only know English as their one language, so please don't ever feel like you have to apologize for learning a new language. ☺ The flower breeding stuff can be really confusing, and there's a lot of incorrect information out there, so please let me know if you still have questions.

You most likely already know this, but the pink windflowers are kind of funny because you would think red + white = pink, but not so in the case of windflowers. You need red and orange. I only mention it because I didn't follow a guide and had a hard time getting pink in the beginning.

Only advice I have is to group a bunch of red and oranges together and water every day. If you can get friends to come water, that will help a lot too since each friend that waters will add to the percent chance of getting a new flower.

i've also been having problems getting flowers to breed, but i'm also trying to get purple hyacinths. i do find it weird though that watering them doesn't spawn any type of flower child, even if not a hybrid. it's a bit weird since flowers used to reproduce like mad on my island before 2.0

I know what you mean, my hubby is trying for a green mum. Months and still nothing and yes followed the breeding chart.

Im glad they nerfed flower reproduction speed if so. They ran rampant and you had to spend hours removing them unless you were careful and made sure you blocked flowers off with patterns and such

If you're cool with me giving some help, may I ask which breeding charts and flower layouts your husband is using? It's possible that he's really just very unlucky, but there's also a lot of incorrect information about breeding charts and layouts floating around. It's really easy to do stuff that will mess things up unless you really understand the gene mechanics behind it, and I just want to make sure this isn't a case of that.

i feel your pain on this one. i havent tried to hybrid any flowers since the update however my old hybrids are still growing without being watered.
that being said...be patient. and when i say patient i mean seriously here. it took me 64 days to get one blue rose! and sometimes it took weeks just to get the normal easy to hybrid colors as well!
it just takes For Ever lol

White mums from store for purples, then breeding purples. Only getting more purple from them though.

Ah, yeah, it's as I feared. Your husband is using incorrect charts that breed by phenotype (the flowers' colors) and not genotype (the flowers' actual genes).

It is a good habit to start with seed flowers, but Purple Mums bred from regular White Mums will never make Green Mums. Essentially, you need Purple Mums with a specific set of genes to breed Green Mums, and the Purple Mums from seed White Mums don't have those genes. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news! It's a really easy trap to fall into, like I said. There's a ton of misinformation out there.

If he's tired of all the nonsense, he can just get a Green Mum from someone else and start cloning them. Most hybrid breeders have way too many flowers, so he shouldn't have a hard time finding someone just giving them away.

But if he's determined to grow the things on his own, I'd recommend the following to better understand the flower mechanics. First, he can look at these correct guides on flower mechanics. I also recommend this guide on Garden Layouts. If trying to understand everything is a bit much, the basic outline for Green Mums is as follows:
  1. Start from scratch. Buy Red Mum and Yellow Mum seeds from Nooks/Leif and plant them. Do not use any existing flowers.
  2. Breed Red (Seed) x Yellow (Seed) to make Yellow (110). 110 refers to the new Yellow's genes. You don't have to worry about what that means, I'm just using it as a name to distinguish them from seed Yellows. 110s are special Yellow Mums with a different set of genes to regular seed Yellows. Do not mix 110s with the seed Yellows or breed them together. Keep them separate. At this stage, use a paired layout or a diamond layout. Never ever use a X or checkerboard layout.
  3. Breed Yellow (110) with Yellow (110). These special Yellow Mums already give you a 6.25% chance to get Green Mums! But to improve the odds, you'll also get two kinds of special Purple Mums with a unique set of genes. I'll call them 120 and 210. There's two different gene sets, but that doesn't matter; they function the same for getting Greens. Keep the Purples, and do not mix these special Purples with any existing Purples. Discard any non-Purples. At this stage, use a 2x2 layout.
  4. Breed all special Purples (120/210) with each other. These will give you a 25% chance of Greens. At this stage, if you get more Purples, add them back to the plot and breed them all together. Discard Reds/Yellows. Same as last stage, use a 2x2 layout to keep things simple (though you can technically use other layouts under the Breeding Layouts [same parents] category in the Garden Layouts link I gave).
That's the minimum needed. He can also do stuff like making use of visitors watering to speed things up since he's worked for so long already. And that was a lot of info, so you (or your husband if he has an account) are welcome to let me know if you need more help~ You can also PM me if you'd like. ☺

Thank you so much for the support! I will immediately change to the beautiful ordinance and hope that it will work!

Is seeds from leif also working? I am using that but it doesn’t work at all. Also, I am not time travelling, so it takes a lot of time. Do you recommend to start time travel?

Seeds from Leif also work! They're the same as seeds from Nook's Cranny. Using flowers from seeds is more important when breeding super difficult hybrids like Blue Roses. For Pink Windflowers, it technically doesn't really matter that much where the flowers came from, but it's still good to get into the habit of using seeds even when breeding "easier" hybrids.

As far as I know, there haven't been any changes to flower breeding beside the Beautiful Ordinance. Flower mechanics were heavily datamined even when the game was very new, so I think dataminers would notice if there are any changes. It really does depend a lot on luck.

It's up to you if you want to try time travelling. That will help a little, but if you're able to do multiplayer and have visitors water your flowers, that will help a lot (or do both at the same time). Having 5 visitors water will nearly guarantee that the flowers will breed. And as another person suggested, it's best to use a lot of flowers breeding at once if you aren't already doing that. If you don't have a lot of flowers breeding together, then even time travelling will take a lot of time.

Ok, but i dont understand. It’s 100% for a pink windflower. So it should be guaranteed to get it next day? Or am I wrong?

No, it's 100% guaranteed if they breed. Which flowers don't do every time . Basically the chance goes up the more days you water your flowers, but it starts on a low chance of flowers breeding at all. So while when they breed, you will definitely (100%) get a pink windflower, first you have to get lucky that they breed at all. But each day that they don't breed and you don't water them the chance goes up, so just be patient (or time travel) and if you're breeding correctly, you'll get there 😊

Ok thanks I didn’t know that. That helped me a lot!
