For me, it wasn’t a comfortable game. The DIY projects, the focus on dolling up your island. The nook tickets. It’s just so stressful that your main goal is to have a pretty island instead of socializing like in previous games. The socializing aspect was always my favorite part and it sucks that it’s just gone.

I love Animal Crossing as a whole, but the game has gotten pretty stale. I pick up the game every once in a while, but it’s not nearly as much as I used to. I think little things like repetitive dialogue and nothing new being added can make the game boring. If the villagers had just a little more to say and if there were more furniture sets, I think that’d help bring some attention back to the game. New Horizons was a great game, but I think the crafting and terraforming aspect makes it seem too much like Minecraft, and not enough like the game we grew to love.

I feel like you just took my exact thoughts and put them into words. I didn’t know why the whole terraforming thing and diy stuff didn’t seem like animal crossing to me until you said “its like Minecraft” which is 100% true.

I didn't end up playing a lot of New Horizons. I found the crafting aspect to be more annoying than fun (especially having to craft bait for fishing) and I didn't find the craftable items worth the removal of the furniture sets that I loved from New Leaf. I also wasn't feeling the music and the smaller house sizes. I feel like I actually would have enjoyed terraforming, but I never made it that far.

I thought ACNH was an excellent game, really enjoyed it a lot. But my one complaint was the crafting. Too much, it gets old really, really fast. If I wanted to play Minecraft, I'd buy Minecraft :)

Never mind, I'll write a better explanation when I have the time.

I agree mostly with Croconaw's post, but also just the way holidays and special events were handled was kind of boring to me. I much preferred the way New Leaf handled them, and there were so many, too. Crafting was also a nightmare and I sincerely hope it never returns, it's one of the main reasons why I hardly pick up the game now. The overall charm of the game just isn't the same as New Leaf, and won't ever be at this point.

I love New Horizons, but I am going to have to agree with what everyone else said.

I love the creative freedom it offers, but the took too much out of other aspects of the game. As iLoveBruce said, the social aspect (which is also my favorite part) of the game is very pale compared to New Leaf and the collection of furniture sets are very pale compared to New Leaf too.

I am hoping Nintendo heeds these critiques for the next mainline game. Again, I think the design aspect was actually a great route (though they should make terraforming less tedious), but they need to focus on other aspects too and bring pack the old furniture sets. Maybe even some ones from Pocket Camp Complete.

I think part of the issue I had with New Horizons was that it came out a couple of days before the UK went into lockdown. So we had literally nothing to do, so I played a tonne of it in such a short space of time and ended up burning out and have struggled to get back into it.

Although, I really wasn’t a fan of the terraforming. Maybe because I’m not very creative but I much preferred the older games and having a “fixed” town. I liked being able to place furniture outside in a more “advanced” way than New Leaf however for me the terraforming was just one step too far. I also didn’t love the crafting. It was cool at first because it was new, but for me it wasn’t very Animal Crossing and I’d rather just buy furniture like in the older games.

I really hope if they do a new game they revert back to the original game play styles, but include some of the positive changes like the increased inventory and placing furniture outside.

It doesn’t feel quite like animal crossing. It’s turned into a decorating game.

I want the villagers to feel real - why do they all have to adore us? I want them to move out without asking. It’s too easy to get the villagers you want (compared to other games) and then you just don’t get anyone new moving in ever.

I wish there was more progression - more upgrades for Nook’s Cranny, etc. just something to focus on rather than decorating.

Terraforming. It was nice as a one-off but I hope it doesn’t come back. It really changed things. I liked having the limits of the previous games. I have no creativity and so NH kind of stresses me out.

The crafting is just weird to me. It made sense in the early game but as you progress, it seems odd. Like why is this item crafted but this other one is something you buy?

I feel like NH was made to last two weeks. The whole storyline and progression lasts two weeks. Before release, they didn’t really give us info on what came after that. And that’s because it’s nothing. We can just decorate the island. But I don’t want to decorate it, I want it to feel like animal crossing.

Don’t get me wrong, I love New Horizons. Animal crossing means a lot to me 😂
