Hi!

So I guess this question has come up because I'm not 100% positive, and I've had a couple of people bump my threads for me (thank you <3 <3)

But the next bump post, should I wait 4 hours (2 for NC) after their last post or after my last bump post?
And speaking of which, is a "free bump" from someone else technically against the rules if the thread hasn't been inactive for 4 hours (2 for NC)?

Would like some clarity on this >///<

I would think it's 4 hours from your last post. I've gotten a bump warning for bumping earlier than that due to someone posting on my thread.

if that's the case tho, then what even is the point of free bumps lol?

Mod told me replying thanks to a poster in my selling thread is a bump because it can be done via PMs or Feedback.

So i would think bumps from friends under the time limit is against the rules as well. Can mods fill in on this?

I have always waited four hours after inactivity on my threads, even when a friend bumped, I counted their post and waited four hours.

just checked the rules

Bumping on The Bell Tree is defined as posting the word "bump" or other variant for the sole purpose of bringing the thread to the top of the board index for increased visibility.

that makes it sound like bumping before the time limit is against the rules even if a friend does it I think?

I bump threads every 2 hours when I need them. I’ve never been told otherwise! 😋

Please wait four hours.

We would see a friend helping to bump your thread more frequently as a way of circumventing this rule and would step in to put a stop to it. While it is nice to help your friends, this is unfortunately unfair on everyone else who patiently waits the four hours.

As a general rule, it is better to only bump your own threads rather than bumping someone else's so that the OP has control over the timing of the bump. For example, there is no point in bumping your friends shop when they may not be online to respond to trades. They may come online an hour later and then have to wait a further three to bump their own thread as a consequence of your actions.

In that case, I will say "no free bumps on this thread ty" on my threads when they're big.

Anyways I never really liked when people bumps my threads because they were never after 4 hours or more.

Ah I always assumed it was allowed cause I always see “free bump” everywhere. I’ll be sure not to do that anymore :D
