I'm not sure if this is common knowledge, but yesterday I found out if you hit them with the shovel it makes a distorted sound made with that instrument instead of the usual wood/grass/metal sound ^^
I barely have instruments in this game because they're too expensive, but here is how a few of them sound like (i remember i used to have a violin too, but i seem to have lost it..)

I don't know if I'd describe them as having a distorted sound. They're just playing dissonant chords, as if a child were striking random keys on the piano loudly and abruptly, or the typical comedic "piano falling" sound effect you hear in everything ever made.

Isn’t the sound different when hitting any piece of furniture? At least, that’s what I recall.

Kind of, there are a few different sets of sounds depending on the furniture's material (so for example all wooden stuff will sound the same/similar, but different than metal or rubber furniture), but each instrument has a specific sound made just for them.
But also I haven't played ACNH much, so I could be mistaken. I just noticed this because I accidentally hit the saxophone instead of a rock :'p

You're right, I just didn't know how to describe it ^^'

This is neat!! Love the detail they added with this. Thanks for sharing :)

I knew about this! I always thought it was a cute detail if you use an axe or shovel on an instrument!!! 🎶🎻🎷🎺🎸

This is honestly pretty cool. I never knew about this. Thanks for sharing, but now I have to try it with everything.😅

Sometimes I wonder how people find out about things like this. Do they start hitting random things with tools to find hidden mechanics, or is it an accident?

LOL, yes I have the same thoughts! I'm grateful that we spoil each other with little details, but it's crazy how some are discovered. I bet the one where Blathers panics when you pull out a bug was discovered on purpose. Like someone knew (or learned) Blathers hated bugs and then "showed it off" in front of him.

That's fair. When I read "funky" I thought you meant it as "having elements of the musical genre of funk" and thus assumed distorted meant as in similar to the effict on a guitar or other instrument. Because my brain is very, very stupid! 😶💦

I actually have a grand piano just randomly sitting outside on my island bc I like to occasionally hit it with an axe and hear the funny noise it makes 😂

(and ofc I also apologize bc I love my pianos lol)

Omg I didnt know the Blathers thing, poor guy 😭🤣 I have to try it now... I wonder if the villagers react when you show off stuff in front of them too, I remember in previous games (and probably on this one too) they clap when they see you fish something

Best reason to have an instrument outside :'p But if you use it to only hit it instead of playing I feel like the rest of islanders will go ''oh here goes the mayor again, on their destroying pianos morning routine 🙄🙄...'' dfgkdg
