I think these are rare fishes that I’m trying to get them but still no luck yet for me . How about you guys? Is there any technique or just luck?

i had problems getting both fish. somebody mentioned this in another thread yesterday...the mahi mahi and the giant trevally i got beside the pier, not at the end of it. i had gone through over 100 fish baits trying to get them from the pier with no luck! it took about 3 days before both of them showed up finally. both fish are active all day. i think i caught my mahi mahi at dusk, around 7pm.
I was super lucky and found them pretty quickly. I think bait is the way to go, so stock up and good luck!
It also seemed to help when I could walk a circle around my island -- I would scare away any fish that didn't fit the description which I think helped the right fish spawn.

Pure luck I think. I've come across the giant trevally once and am yet to find the mahi-mahi. At this point I just run past the pier in hopes there is a large fish shadow, because I've used fish bait and it hasn't helped at all.
I recently caught both having not realised that there were any pier fish last year. It took a lot of fish bait and constantly checking the pier though - I'd say make a point of checking the pier every time you are nearby, when you're about to finish playing etc. I did joke that I had fish mania for a reason!

The fact that the Sea Bass overshadows this fish's appearance surely makes this the rarest fish in the entire game.
Catching one alone makes it feel so rewarding.
It took me about 10 tries of 30 fish bait for me to finally get one, and when I did I sighed in relief as I know I no longer have to use fish bait to get rare fish anymore.

i just happened across a giant trevally a month or so ago, and i just caught my first mahi-mahi a moment ago by using fish bait at the pier after only 5 or so tries! i think it's mostly luck, and knowing which fish shadows are gonna get you what you need. keep at it & you'll eventually get it!

I have got my luck today to get these two fishes, my island beaches are full of flowers can’t make lots of baits so I bout 100 fish baits and finally got them , so happy

Yep same here I hate to make fish baits I bought it 100 fish baits and tried to catch them and I was so lucky that I got them within 70-80 baits
There was one time where I was applying with a cousin and I was like "All I need is a mahi-mahi for this month's new fish." When I walked to the dock a moment later, there is a big shadow and it was indeed a mahi-mahi. I manifested it.

congrats!! they’re a pain in the ass to catch but i’m glad you were able to finally find them!

I literally booted up the game today and started fishing right after doing the wedding event stuff. First fish I catch at the pier is a Mahi-mahi. No bait required. 20+ minutes later I catch the Giant trevally by savescumming and only using one bait. I also got the Arapaima in the river not long after that. I feel pretty lucky today considering I thought I'd spend days looking for them.
