A friend of mine had their connection interrupted when someone was adopting a villager. The invite didn’t go through on that person’s end. They lost contact with the person adopting him. Because the connection was interrupted though, Isabelle’s been saying that he’s moving for three days now. Has anyone else come in contact with this glitch, and a way of solving it? Only ways I’d think of is having someone invite the villager again.

Do they have an Amiibo to attempt to rebox them again? or do they have someone else to attempt and "take" the villager away? Anyways, they might find solutions in the link provided as few people had update posts regarding it.

The posts also seem to mention the "villager move out glitch" though so I think they were made prior to the update.
Has the OP updated the game?
Also, does the villager in boxes still show on your map? Could you not try to boot him out via amiibo?
Their game is up to date, and he was visible and able to be interacted with.
They found someone else to come adopt him and it seems to have worked, no issues reported yet.
