Hair help

Supplements containing biotin can help, but I've heard they also have some unpleasant side effects for some people (acne, stomachaches. etc). I have a friend who swears by those Sugar Bear Hair gummies and her hair does seem to be growing a bit faster since she's started taking them, but I'd probably go with any no-frills biotin formula unless the cutesy bottle aesthetic really appeals to you. :)

Yep, B12/biotin vitamins are definitely a good idea, also maintaining what you eat otherwise is a good idea since some food are said to help (or, just eat healthy in general).

There are also some brands that are said to really help such as certain OGX shampoos and those brands with shea butter in it. And of course don'y bleach/dye/use other products too much, as well as giving it masks and stuff.

thanks I'll check this out. I was using hair skin and nail vitamins but they made my face break out like you wouldn't believe! I guess I'm just stuck with my short irish mop

Coming from someone who went from short hair to long mermaid hair, you have to make sure you keep your dead ends trimmed. Sounds counterintuitive, but cutting off split ends will allow you to grow healthy and beautiful hair! When I was growing mine out I took Biotin and other supplements for a while but I didn't notice much of a difference. It took years for it to get long. The biggest helpers to me were regular trims and stopping using hot tools! The healthier you can get your hair to be, the better it grows! At least that's my experience!

I'll also say that I have mid-thigh length hair (seriously!) and my secret is just not cutting it. Like, no cutting or trimming at all in over 6 years. I personally don't do supplements or anything of that nature, but I limit shampooing to no more than 3x per week and use a deep conditioner every single time. I also don't own a brush and use only a wide-tooth comb for any brushing or styling.

Anyway, that's my personal advice! I know stylists will tell you to keep trimming off your "dead ends", but all hair is nothing more than dead keratin protein and trimming does nothing in terms of follicular heath, which is where all hair growth is prompted. I found this article which also has some great tips. Best of luck!

Biotin doesn’t do anything. Trimming your split ends is a myth.
I’d recommend incorporating lots of healthy fats into your diet. Nuts, seeds, avocado, etc! It also helps with strengthening your hair and making it shiny.

As someone whose hair grows really slow, B12/vegan vitamins helped me at least so I guess it differs. But yeah I don't really care for split ends for that matter, sure I cut them off if it bother but that's it

Some other tips cause I've been too obsessed with my hair these days:

- Invest in a good shampoo. That professional 12 bucks bottle is probably better than that dollar store cheapskate.
- If you can switch at least your sleeping pillow case to a silk/satin one, will cause less friction and damage
- Or get a silk/satin sleeping cap or scarf around your hair when sleeping for protection

A YouTuber I follow recently put out this video with some great tips. Most of them were highlighted in this thread!
She has chemically treated hair so her perspective may be of interest to anyone in that regard.
