do you or your family do anything to celebrate?

here in the USA most areas don't hold Oktoberfest celebrations until next month.

i try to pick out at least one weekend to have a real German dinner of brats, knackwurst, sauerkraut, and german potato salad...

can i come spend it with you?
i used to celebrate it with my oma but since i dont live anywhere near her anymore i no longer get to enjoy a home cooked german meal and good beer with the family.

that's cool that your grandma would cook!

my family has never done anything, i just started doing this on my own as an adult; and it aint home-cooked, it's pre-made at the German deli near me (altho i grill or simmer the wursts). the family that runs the deli is from Germany, but i get a kick out of the fact that all their sausages come from Wisconsin or Rochester NY, lol.

there's an official HofBrau restaurant tho in Florida i want to visit some time. that's some good beer too.

I don't really celebrate, although I do look forward to Oktoberfest style beers, such as the one by Samuel Adams.

My mother actually went to the Oktoberfest in Munich, this was years ago mind. She's told me her experience many of times before. None of our family really 'celebrate' it anymore, especially as we no longer live there. It's something that I would LOVE to experience though! :D

We have family over in Germany and travelling around Eastern Europe at the moment (since some of us originate from Poland, some from Germany). Anyway, we always tend to have a small celebration but I don't think it's going to happen this year sadly :( will probably be me on my own doing something. I really enjoy knackwurst and currywurst. Maybe I'll be having that this year again...although like you I just get mine from a deli. I'm not great with the cooking....

that one is pretty good, as is the newish one from Sierra Nevada. I like Leinenkugel as well.

to me the best German marzen is Paulaner, hands down. I also really like the HofBrau wiesn style festbier.

I went to Munich on holiday in 2014 and 2015! It was lovely there, although we went in July so no Oktoberfest :( but no, we don't do anything to celebrate.

HAPPY OKTOBERFEST FEST, EVEN IF IT'S SEPTEMBER...

"When will the Oktoberfest 2016 take place?

On Saturday, September 17th, the Schottenhamel tent is the place to be, if you want to catch the official opening ceremonies. At noon, the Mayor of Munich will have the honor of tapping the first keg of Oktoberfest beer. Once the barrel has been tapped, all visitors will then be allowed to quench their thirst. The festival will last until October 3rd."

--so basically, Oktoberfest is just like an ACNL PWP completion ceremony...

I don't drink beer, eat meat, or like sauerkraut so it's not really the holiday for me. XD If I did do those things it would be fun going to one of the big celebrations, I mean it looks like a good time, just not my bag.

i usually don't do anything to celebrate, but i sure do enjoy a good german brat meal - luckily there are are few good german delis / restaurants around me

Despite having family over there we have never been :( we have just always celebrated over here, but that's been mostly with my encouragement. The rest of my family aren't massively into this kind of thing :( I am hoping to go there at some point just to get the experience. Like I said, I'll go and buy the meats from the deli again this year and have a meal with some friends, but I'd rather be over there in the thick of it :)
