(Dunno if this is the right board for this but it's related to ACNH only so....)
Recently I've been giving things that are overpriced away for free (40 NMT for example), whilst trying to be extremely quick and swift. I just made my account and I feel like people think I'm scamming them somehow, but I'm not really sure if that happens there often. So I figured I'd ask here if it does.

It does, yes, but scamming happens everywhere. It’s more common in some places. Some people on Nookazon are just greedy and ask for a kidney in exchange for something that can be reordered. Most people are expecting to see things like that, so it might come as a surprise that you’re giving away things for free even if it’s out of kindness. I personally think Nookazon could use a bit of kindness. I personally haven’t been scammed but I know it happens.

Its a common occurrence, sadly. My one and only time using it, I was scammed out of 150K IGB. People are sad.

Ive made almost 130 trades on nookazon but I haven't ever been scammed before. I do see it happening though, its always worth it to check someone's ratings and reviews.

I could understand why someone might be a little suspicious of the generosity though.

I guess my thinking is I don't really know how that would happen on AC. I'm thinking just maybe disconnecting or just not trading or.... Something?
Yeah honestly, the free section is OK. Like it's not great but it kinda sucks, I guess it's nice for people who want a really specific item though but still, everyone always seems so confused with me lol

Yeah it's fair I just don't really know what to do about it I guess haha

I’ve seen where people would offer a villager to trade they don’t even have. For example, you’d purchase Raymond and drop the bells first. Unknowingly, you’d drop your bells thinking everything’s all fine and dandy, you’ll look at the map and realize there is no Raymond. Before you know it, the person is ending the session with your bells on their island.

I'd say the best option may be to try to get more ratings through doing normal trades etc. and then people will be more likely to trust you. It sounds like a nice idea!

Man I listed 40 NMT for free, but instead gave them 80. I was thinking like, "This is probably a little kid, how could someone just scam little kids in this game?" It genuinely bothered me. How could someone do that?
I guess little kids are also capable of doing it but STILL kid or not it still bothers me lol

I think that kids just think it’s funny. They don’t necessarily know what they’re doing is mean because they’re more concerned with how they feel over how you feel.

Yeah kids are like that huh....

You're right, I just don't want anyone to think I have fake reviews either lol, which is also a thing people do on there I've heard. Y'all really gonna put in THAT much effort to scam on a video game? Yeeeeeeesh

Some people just have way too much time on their hands. Faking reviews for their elaborate scams? That’s their problem to deal with, not yours. People that do this are just sad, and the people that think it’s funny are even more sad.

Oh man really? Probably shouldn't ask this but, do you mind telling some? 😶
Most usually like the ones they mentioned already where you come to the island and pay them already for the villager and then they cut off the connection etc. IIRC there was a thread before about some experiences there too but I forgot the title of the thread. Also, I have friends who trade there and although most of them have not been scammed personally, they do say that the prices there are super high and most people ask for so much.

Dang, how do people have the time lol Hopefully though if it is real people they'd be able to check your reviews and see that it's other real users? I'd assume most fake reviews are sock puppet accounts.

I've used Nookazon a handful of times and have never been scammed. I actually think it's a good site to trade apart from the ridiculous asking prices some people want for seemingly common items, but there are also very reasonable offers even if they're far and few.

Never used, never will. Always traded here on TBT, and that's what I'm planning to do once the update and the dlc drop. Even being absent for a good chunk of time, I still remember who I can make safe trades, so I wouldn't even bother to find new players to do that.

I may give away some things like I did in the past, and I'll probably participate in the Toy Day event if it's anything like last year. I think we have a very good community here on TBT, and if you connect with the right people, you'll have nothing but fun. Just keep in mind that when people think it's "suspicious" for others to have acts of kindness, it's more about how life has been throwing this kind of people at them, so getting defensive becomes an instinct.

I’ve never been scammed but to be fair I tend to stay away from trading with people who don’t have any reviews or things that seem too good to be true.

I use Nookazon on occasion, and never had any problems personally. There are issues where, because we are all pretty much bargaining, that someone might make lowball offers (say, an apple for the very rare and hard-to-get Rover’s suitcase), but that isn’t scamming per se, and can easily be dealt with by counters and declining offers.

Most people I encountered were fairly friendly and honest. The few times that it felt sketchy is usually when someone new-ish to the trade scene did something that breaks normal protocol (i.e. inviting multiple people to trade at the same time, not understanding touch trade, etc). As I see it, this is just a game, so I don’t get to upset with these sort of things, but it is always nice when people just treat each other decently to make lofe easy and fair for all.
