I want to see if anyone else was crazy enough to buy the game twice like me.

Last month I pre-loaded the game digitally, and today I pre-ordered a physical copy at GameStop! I know it’s kind of pointless since both versions will share the same save data, but it’ll be nice to have a sealed copy I can display in my room. Perhaps I could give it as a gift to someone someday if I ever make a friend who loves Animal Crossing. I’ll be playing the digital version of course.

I know there are lots of huge AC fans out there so I wouldn’t be surprised if other people have done this!

I'm getting a digital and a physical, but we have two Switches. I'm happy because I like physically owning the game and pre-order bonus... but I wanted to play digitally at 9pm

I’ll just stick to one copy. It’s crazy to me that Nintendo decided to pass up the opportunity to have people buy multiple copies to make have additional islands. I know a lot of NL players had multiple towns.

There has to be more behind the reasoning, I don’t think it’s as simple as preventing cheating.

i haven’t because i only have one switch so a second copy would be useless lol

Some say it was to urge people to get a second switch. The amount of nintendhoes who would actually get a 2nd switch for one game is nowhere near the amount of people who would buy a second copy of the game. They would have made so much more by not doing whatever.. this is. The earnings would be so non-comparative that I have a hard time thinking that was ever a business strategy. But if not then why? Time travel? Is it that big'o deal lol

digital and a physical. What happen was planned on picking up copy after work...then they gave the digital pre orders...so brought that and will give physical to my friend who love the games just as much as me.

I preordered the Target version for the Journal. I plan on selling or returning it later, after I buy the Walmart one for $10 cheaper.

I would keep the Target one but ships till the monday after. Pft. No sir thank you.

I'm buying 1 of each. Digital for my new AC Switch, and physical for my existing Neon Switch.

I've only got one Switch so even if I wanted to buy it twice I couldn't. :c I may buy it as a gift for a friend though if that counts!

Ikr, it’s such a restrictive decision in a game that gives you so much freedom. Plus all that potential revenue they’re passing up. We’ll probably learn the legit reason once the game is released. Nintendo’s gonna throw us a curve ball none of us saw coming, lol.

would have loved to buy more copies and was honestly intending to do so but didn't! i don't think i will be either unless they somehow change the way the game is saved. very wack move of them imo but Nintendo reeeallly hates hackers so I'm not surprised they went this far to ruin any possibilities.. plus, they tried to include most of what you could do in hacking in New leaf, into new horizons. I don't think town hackers were problematic to cause such a wack business strategy since all they did was edit their town freely, creative freedom, their own save file lol but, hopefully it's something that could be changed later.

I only got digital. My bf has a switch lite and i have the original switch; the digital works as two games so... yea.

I see people confused on why you can only have one save file per Switch. It’s actually really simple. It’s just the Switch’s limitations. I’m pretty sure every Switch game has save data handled the same way. Remember, the Switch is a home console first, handheld second, as opposed to the 3DS which was a handheld at heart. I believe the Wii has the same method for handling save data, and people never complained about it then. I don’t get why people think this is new or exclusive to Animal Crossing.

tl;dr: There were no bad intentions when it came to the way the Switch handles the save data, and previous home consoles have done it the same way. It’s just the way things are coded to work.

Actually every other game on the switch allows different files for each account; animal crossing is the only one that doesnt o uo;; with the Wii you could only have one file but that was normal. The switch has allowed 8 save files separate from one another with every other game

It's not one save file per Switch for other games. I bought Pokemon Let's Go and can have 8 save files on one Switch. To do this you just need to make another profile and start a new game. The other profile doesn't get erased.
With ACNH you can't do this. It's one island for 8 profiles to share.

I bought a cartridge for my main switch and digital for my 2nd switch. I want to visit my islands and sharing one game doesn't work.

We are getting two copies. One physical and one digital. However, both me and my husband are going to be playing it on our own switches, so I'm not sure if that still counts as "getting multiple copies". :lemon:

I think I know a way around that actually!
My bf and I download all games onto his acc and we play together all the time on separate consoles. If you have 2 different profiles on each switch, as long as you arent on the EXACT same profile with both you should be able to visit the other town
Of course I cant confirm this since it's not out to try but I've had no issues with any other game like dragon quest builders and splatoon c:
Edit;
However having 2 different games does make it easier so one person doesnt have to be connected to the internet to play at all since switches are labeled as main or secondary

or Nintendo is just locking save backups behind a paywall lol

I will have two switches once the LE one arrives. So I got two copies: a JP physical copy that comes with the bento box pre-order books and then I’ll be getting an NA copy as well

I bought a digital and physical copy as well! I got myself the special edition Switch, so I'll be putting the physical cartridge in that. The digital copy is for my brother to use on the "family" switch. That way we can play at the same time and even play together! :)

I also kinda get the best of both worlds in terms of being able to play at midnight (11pm my time, actually) and having a physical box to display!
