Have you ever saved an insect or Archnid? 🕷🐝🪲🐛

I try not to kill bugs unless they’re pests.
I released a spider outside just this morning.

I don’t mind spiders because they take care of those aforementioned pests…
But I do take out their webs if they get out of hand…

As long as it isn't a pest insect (mosquito, roach etc) I typically prefer to leave them be, but if they're inside and really shouldn't be I'll try to gently capture them and let them outside. I also have a soft spot for bees and have lifted them up out of water, or noticed tired ones and placed them on a flower so they could get some nectar.

I have taken a few bugs out of water. My favourite was a beautiful blue dragonfly where I had to use a brush to lift it out from underneath.

Absolutely! Although the funniest was probably the bee on my freaking pillow. Grabbed a couple of cups, scooped him up and sent him back outside on his way and told him nap time was over.

Moths are the most rescued in my current house. Every year we get a Miller Moth migration and they get everywhere. Every year though, I make the same mistake of catching one, and as I open my front door to let it outside, at least ten more that were hiding in the door jambs fly into my house. So the saving starts again, but much more frustrating the second round.

I have also caught and released big spiders that give me literal nightmares, but I don't want to hurt them.

I'll help escort most insects back outside using a cup or other container to catch them. If it's an arachnid and it's like, walking or descending into my vicinity (as opposed to just chilling in its web in a corner or something) I'll catch it with something and relocate it to another area of the house. Presumably it's a house spider, so putting them outside wouldn't be good for them.

If a pest like a fly finds its way in the house, as they annoyingly seem to have a tendency to do in the Summer months, it's death. If I could reliably capture them, I'd just let them back outside too, but it's a pain enough just to successfully smack the darn things without them moving.

This is something I grapple with morally so much! I volunteer in wildlife conservation/rehabilitation and work with wildlife animal ambassadors for education, but I really do hate some bugs. I will save most bugs and insects I come across. There are some though that I am irrationally afraid of. If it flies and can sting me it’s gotta go. I hate cicadas as well. I admire a lot of beetles from afar, but I can’t just be handling those things. I will remove them to the best of my availability, but usually have to have someone else do it. I will however pick up and vibe with a hissing cockroach, I love those! We had one as a classroom pet once and I was the only person who was chill with it.

Really depends. Sometimes sure, but if it's an infestation that needs to be dealt with swiftly then no. I've let bugs outside before and threw some worms off of sidewalks and driveways so they don't fry. They're great for keeping my garden soils so fertile so they're really awesome. Black widows, fleas, mosquitoes, ticks? Nope!

My sister got really ill from lyme disease and still has effects of it. So some things just got to go.

All the time! I am the designated bug remover in my house; I’m really good at trapping them with a plastic container, then sliding paper underneath to carry them outdoors.

One time I was visiting Shenandoah National Park with my partner and we had to flee back to our rental car in a downpour and wait out the storm to drive safely back to our lodging. Inside the car, we realized that three small bugs of completely different types had attached themselves to my sweater and come into the car for shelter. I gave them names and we hung out for a few hours until the rain passed.

The only exception for me is bugs that are dangerous or harmful to humans. I kill mosquitos and ticks and would kill a spider if I believed it was likely venomous. Everything else gets gently relocated.

Sorry but your trip reminds me of this 😅 Love the story though, cute! ❤️

I capture moths, flies, and mosquitoes to release back outside if I'm able.
I could never, ever rescue my least favourite insect. That is some resolve there.🫡

I have rescued many insects. Mostly worms after long rains or spiders that somehow find themselves in the house.
