I'm not just talking about adding a fish to Judy's home, or an instant muscles suit to Raymond's place. I mean, have you ever taken a perfectly good home and completely altered it for whatever reason?

I'm thinking about revamping Julian's home. Not because it's awful - it's one of the best homes in the game in my opinion. I want my villagers to follow a theme, and most of the stuff in his home has to go for that theme to work, to the point it might even look ruined to anyone who can't work out that theme.

Anyone else done this before?

I set a theme for the exteriors of my villagers' houses. The neighborhood in the forest area are all similar, and the beachy neighborhood follows the same look. I simply changed colors and door plates to match each character.

As for the interiors, they are all very different because I wanted something that suited each villager. Some of the changes are extremely different from the original homes, but that's okay. If you have a theme you want for your island, go for it.

Should you ever choose to let Julian (or anyone else) go, they will revert to their default home for the new island, so I wouldn't worry about that. And if anyone criticizes your island and the way you've decorated it, tell them they don't have to visit again. :)

Oh man I regretted giving villagers back in the day in 2020 Fish and Bugs. Like I didn't think they would display them in their homes because when they asked for them I was trying to be nice and then when you go into their home you saw that it was full of fish and bugs. I was like "What in the world am I looking at?" Thank goodness for Happy Home Paradise adding features to fix this issue.

I still have my first 5 starters and their homes were completely messed up by fish + ugly presents on top of the already ugly starter homes... but after looking up some of their original designs, I decided that I would just go with my own themes when it came to redesigning them. I tried to include some key items or colours from their old designs but I would say it's more of an improvement than ruining it! I also considered making some facility type houses, like a laundromat house for Freya who lives next to the island's laundromat... but without a bed and kitchen I was worried it might feel like they don't actually live on my island 😅

You can always complain about their houses to Isabelle once you've finished the main storyline of the DLC. She'll reset the house to its original state, including your first 5 villagers if you want them to have their actual house.
