I'm gonna start a new island and thinking about to only have 8 villagers (like one villager per personality), since I may ending up having 7 character houses and I'm planning a layout where 8 villagers would work better. I know it's possible to have less than 10, but are there any things I have to consider? Like, will it take much longer to unlock 3 stars to get K.K.? If so, what do I have to do to unlock it faster? And are there any restrictions if you don't have the full 10 plots available? Depending on how I can implement my layout idea, I may gonna add the other plots to a later time, but for now I would like to stick with just 8. Would be thankful for any help and tips!

It shouldn’t take any longer to get K.K., since the only villager requirement I can find is having eight of them. The only other thing would be that villagers would be less likely to attempt to move out, because the formula that the game uses to determine whether or not a villager will try makes it more likely the more villagers a player has. Shouldn’t be an issue either way- I’ve had nine villagers for months now with no notable effects.

I had 9 plots only for the first 6 months of my islands existence and from what I can tell there really wasn't any difference at all in reaching 3 stars. Picking up all the weeds and getting some flowers growing was mostly all it took for me to get to 3 stars from what I can remember. My game still just progressed as usual, got the Ables store, was able to upgrade Nooks store, etc. I was also able to make progress towards the Island Togetherness Nook Mile achievement without having a full 10 villagers. There is also no villager dialog at all about having space for more plots or anything like that so you won't feel like something is missing.

I don't think there will be a problem. Both 3 Star and 5 Star can be achieved with 8 villagers.

I'm actually planning on keeping my second island below 10 for now as not only does it keep everyone unique, but also takes up less space on the island..

The only real problem with less than 10 villagers is that Campers (Both RNG and Amiibo) can't kick anyone out.

If a dreamie is in the campsite, you won't be able to invite them and get a resident in boxes.

There will be 3 Villagers I believe who won't have their actual house.

They can move out, so you're not stuck with them if you don't want them.

Villagers can move out as soon as you get 6 villagers
