HD Animal Crossing

I've been on tumblr a lot and seen Animal Crossing New Leaf and Happy Home Designer photos that were all HD.
Do people use textiles on their DS?

From what I can remember the HD screenshots are either created by 2 methods.

A: They uploaded their screenshot to Miiverse for a higher quality picture compared to the one that you get from in-game

or

B: People digitally enhanced their Animal Crossing screenshots using Photoshop or any paint program.

I think people use http://waifu2x.udp.jp with their Miiverse photos.
