You can stop her leaving by talking to her and telling her that she needs to stay when she asks you again if she should leave. setting it back will probably make her move. I haven't TT here lately so I can't remember.

The only thing you can do know is get someone else to hold her for you and you cycle through 16 villagers and then get her back. I haven't tried, but IF it's the same Maple you can get her back into your town. I don't know if that has been approved/disproved yet, I haven't been on in a while.

If you dont time travel then it's going to take some time for villagers to move out to get Maple back

Cycling is where you go through several villagers. You cycle through them, basically have villagers move in and out. and Nintendo only saves the last 16 Past villagers on your game. so it won't save Maple if she's the 17th past villager.
