Hi guys, I wondered if someone could help. I don’t really know much about Animal Crossing but my daughter loves it. Today she decided that she wanted to delete all the data and start again. However as soon as she did it, she instantly regretted it and was very upset!! Is there any way of retrieving the data or will she have to start again from scratch? Many thanks 🙏😀

If she backed it up, went into the data management and chose the Switch Recover Save Data option.

Other than that, no.

Don't want to be the bearer of bad news but no. I looked up the save and restoration service but it says "Restoration Service is only applicable in the events of loss or damage to the Switch system. You will not be able to restore your save data as you like. A new or repaired Switch is required." https://game8.co/games/Animal-Crossing-New-Horizons/archives/292302

So she will have to start over. :( if theres any items she wants i can see if I can help her, it shouldnt take long to get back on track.

I also have Daisy in boxes today if she likes a cute dog. ^^

I'm sorry to tell you mam but once the save data is deleted there is no other way to recover it. Even the island backup data is also deleted. So I'm afraid you'll have to tell your daughter the bad news. She may not like it, but at least she will know better in the future.

Feel like this is a Mr. Resetti situation would have been helpful in explaining this more than Nook.

Unfortunately she will have to start over from scratch. There is no way to recover deleted data for Animal Crossing.

Not going to get into why this very situation is why there needs to be a way for us to recover deleted saves.

Not sure if this could work since I never tried it out before, but how about asking the Nintendo customer service if they could help to restore the save data if it was backed up? I mean, if you explain them that it was an accident, perhaps someone is so friendly and will help you out?

Otherwise, I'm afraid the save data is unfortunately gone and she has to make a new island now. :/

Sorry but they made it very clear that once the save data is gone for good there is no way to recover. They do warn you in red text about it.

I know, it was just a thought since Nintendo may would help out in a case of an accident (if they are so kind to do it).

I think I've heard about Nintendo sometimes being agreeable about restoring save data even when it's not a brand-new or repaired Switch. Can't hurt to try contacting them and asking, so I think it's at least worth a try, then you'll know for sure. The worst they can say is no, and then you'll be in the same situation as you are now anyway.

Agreed. Worst case scenario, they'll say no and you're just right back where you started. Even if that happens, this community is full of super helpful people who will happily help your daughter start up again with items, flowers, and bells. :) I had the same situation happen to me in New Leaf, but in the end, I ended up loving my new town even more than I ever loved my previous one. It's just scary at first to start with nothing when you had everything done in your game before.

Thanks everyone for your replies. How would I contact Nintendo, is it online chat or something? Sorry to be so dumb, I really don’t know much about it 😂

@Tindre thanks so much for offering to help with items etc. She would love the dog 😀 how do we do it?

Thanks again xx

I am sorry she moved out this morning, they move out after one day :( if I had known you wanted her yesterday I would have timetraveled to keep her until you could take her. I am sorry.. ;_;

It depends on what country you're in. You'll go to Nintendo's website for wherever you live, then go to their customer support, and there should be a way for you to contact them about the Nintendo Switch Online service, and from there, you can probably either use an online chat or call them on the phone.

I don't know if you ever actually specified in this thread whether or not you set up for New Horizons to save a backup of the save data using your NSO account. If you did, then you can try asking Nintendo to help you get it back. But if you know for a fact that you never set up those backups, or if you never had a NSO account to begin with, then there's nothing you can do to get the save data back.
