Help with central plaza's tree growth

Well, here's the thing: I have been playing ACNL since july of last year. It's the game I play the most.I had a 3ds xl at that time,but was sadly stolen by thiefs on August of 2013. Then, dad bought another 3ds xl in october. At that time, pokemon x y and other games were taking my time,but then I started playing ACNL at January of 2014. I play this game so much since last year and I was wondering wh my big plaza tree is still at the 300h/300 days cycle? I'm sure I played more time than that and I can see that in the 3ds activity log? is it because I am playing on a different 3ds?

Acording to Liquefy's FAQ, the final jump in tree growth is from the 300 day 300 hour to the 500 day 500 hour. I think it is just game time not which DS you use - as long as you have the same game cartridge and town. So I think you'll be stuck at the same place for 200 days before you reach the final tree size. Just gives you something to look forward to I guess

I'm pretty sure it grows depending on how much you've played in game and not how much you've played the game in general.
