planning on picking up NH on day 1, and I currently live in the southern hemisphere, although I'll be moving up to the northern hemisphere end of 2020/early 2021 (will be living up there for at least 3 years). I definitely intend to play NH for a good long while, and I don't want to have to restart my game to switch hemispheres...pls help :')

This is a toughie, but since you'll be living in the Southern Hemisphere after the Northern I suggest using that one. Hopefully they let you switch because 3 years with the wrong hemisphere is so annoying! Hopefully Nintendo can address this.

Why don't you just start playing Northen, that way you'll start adjusting and it'll make moving easier, I think... ₍₍( ? ᵕ ` *)⁾⁾

I think if you'll be living in the northern much longer than you'll be in the southern you should go with the northern hemisphere.

I'd go southern! Especially because it will remind you of home once you move to the northern hemisphere.

I think it depends on what feels "closer to home" for you? If you're already feeling a bit sad that the seasons might feel off for you where you're moving, then maybe the game can help you feel better and less homesick. I was in Asia once during winter and felt really depressed to see that everyone was wearing summer clothes while my family back home got ready for christmas. It was nice to play New Leaf and see a christmas wonderland, even though my environment was completely different at that time.

But if you're used to both hemispheres or less teary about it than me, then I'd suggest to go for the Northern Hemisphere, since this will match your real environment for the next couple of years.

I'd go with southern since that is where you hail from, and will be returning to in 2023/2024. Plus, while in the north, you can experience the current weather back home.

At the time time, all other games have been locked to the northern hemisphere. So if you pick that, the experience will be the same as it has always been with other games. Provided this isn't your first AC game.

I would go with northern then, as you will probably be playing the game the most in that period of time.

Well, you can choose your current one, then check to see if there is an option to change it in-game? If so, you got nothing to worry about. If not, I'd probably pick the hemisphere you'll be moving to.

I’m with everyone suggesting to pick Southern as a way to feel closer to home (and then have it set to the right one once you return!)

If you’re not at all sentimental/nostalgic though, or don’t care too much about seasons not matching up later on in the game, I’d probably go with Northern.

as others have suggested, i would choose northern to maybe try and grow accustomed to it before your big move c;

Changing a hemisphere is a lot different than moving a house. It will not be possible, I guarantee it.

Thank you this was helpful. I thought this was the case. Ive lived in the northern most of my life, but I wasn't certain which I wanted on the game.

I suggest choosing the one you will feel most at home with. If you're going to be living in the northern hemisphere for the majority of the time you will own the game, choose that. If southern for most of the time you have the game, choose that one. That's my suggestion.

I would probably pick southern because even after 7 years I still would go back to my NL game. Other people mentioned it feeling like home and all that, so yeah pick south in my opinion.

Yeah, that's tough. I mean if you play Animal Crossing for years (like I do), I would go with whatever hemisphere you plan on being in longer. So if you plan on moving back to the South after three years, probably just pick the South.
