Here's a thought...chat boxes

You know what would be super convenient on TBT forum? CHAT BOXES. I know we have VM and PM and threads but it would just be SO much easier organizing trades if there was an instant chat box thing like on facebook. Is there one? Maybe I'm missing something, I just joined a few days ago >.< If there is one, let me know :O It's just frustrating to have lost track of a thread when organizing a trade or you're not sure if the other person is still active and you have to go stalking their profile like a creep to see when their last activity was -_- What are your thoughts???

There's the IRC, but that's a group chat rather than the individual chat you're looking for. I think PMs and VMs work fine though.

Yeah I think PMs and VMs are perfect. If you want to talk to someone just to chit chat you can exchange third party IM services' (Skype, Kik for example) details with them.

Instead of individual chat boxes, I think it would be nice for a general forum shoutbox for members to post on. There's always the IRC, but this one would probably be more inclusive, as the IRC is unfortunately one giant clique.

There was a shout box when we first moved to VB iirc (either that or he thought about it since we had one on ZB), but Jeff removed it coz it made the forum look ugly.
But I'm pretty sure most of his reason for removing it was cause he brought the irc back to life,, which died back on ZB. And if we had a shout box most of it would be spammers or people asking for villagers - there most likely wouldn't be any actual conversation.

I actually think that an instant messenger where you can chat with people on your friends list would be really fun! On other sites that I've been on, they've been extremely popular or requested frequently. The only problem is that TBT would have to either use a third party service (which isn't really that desirable) or code one from scratch which doesn't seem that likely since TBT is rather small xP.

I don't think it's really needed to be honest. If you want to know whether someone's online then you can see the green thing next to their username. Also, us TBTers normally set something up if we really need a chat group. I've seen people use Chatzy for people to chat about giveaways in.

I completely agree! I think PMs and VMs are fine as well but I would have preferred something more instant as chats
