People are like "why play a complicated game that requires logic and dedication and stuff when I could play games such as "Count until *blank* or until *blank* posts" or the even more profound "The post above you/post below you does *insert action here*"

That's similar to what the friends I talked to said, actually. It looks a lot more daunting than it is though, trust me.
I wonder if new players could ask for coaches in the future? I think that'd take away the fear factor of having no clue what to do.

see like ik that for me mafia was like really intimidating with my first game being the one where karla ripped all of us to shreds and i do remember crying that game
one thing that i really like (liked?) about mafia is/was that i know how the people i play with generally play, so it gives me an aspect or two on how everyone acts under given circumstances
not to mention, mafia is also like 100% funnererer when playing irl bc u also get body language + facial expressions, but u also know the people playing, so, even if just having a genial conversation, you can tell that they're being careful about what they say or something
that's just a disadvantage of forum mafia tho
i think it interesting how mafia's sudden decrease in activity occured around the time the cellar was created
and, i would invite friends, but i'm sure that everyone would like more dramatic Blu Roses causing more drama during games than there already is
tbh i just kinda wanna see how this fairs over the summer; if activity over the summer is still where it is now, then i'd be willing to let mafia go peacefully
