What are your hobbies? Are they common? Do people around you know about them? I want to know more about what y'all like to do in your spare time.

Besides gaming (ofc), I like baking. I started doing it years ago to relieve stress, it's very fun trying new recipes whenever I can! I made banana break the other day (fast, easy and delicious)

These are my hobbies!

- Video Games
- Writing
- Reading
- Web Design/Graphic Design

These keep me pretty busy! I'd like to add these hobbies to my list eventually:

- Learning piano
- Learning French
- Lego
- Crocheting

Those are nice hobbies! Getting creative is good for you. I actually started to learn french recently, I should pick it up again heh.

I like going to antique and thrift stores, building Lego sets, and I’m trying to learn how to sew and crochet.
Thrifting is so nice, I rarely buy anything just seeing all that well loved stuff makes me feel good too!

My favorite hobbies are drawing, crocheting, listening to music, and playing video games! I've also tried origami, sewing, writing, and a little cooking/baking, but it's been a while. It never hurts to try new things though! You'll end up learning plenty of stuff from your former hobbies that you can use for your current ones. For example, I learned basic techniques for hand-sewing things together and have since used them when crocheting things with multiple parts! ^_^

That said, I want to get back to cooking/baking because it's going to be important later on, but first I need to break out of my notoriously low self-esteem over my skills. (x_x")

—Writing! I guess it could be considered more than a hobby, though. I like writing poems, short stories, and novels (though that requires A LOT of work). Some of my poetry has been published, but nowhere famous…still have yet to publish a story or novel. (though I’ve gotten plenty of rejections)
I submitted one of my stories to a contest, and while it didn’t win, the editor emailed me saying it was shortlisted and they would like to interview me for their blog. I said yes…but I’m waiting on the questions.

—Drawing. Not as good as it as I am with writing, but it’s still fun and I like experimenting with new ideas.

—Birdwatching (not good at identifying based on calls, but I can visually identify them)

—Taking walks

—Listening to music

—Gaming (obviously)

—Learning about history

—Doing my nails

—Spending time with pets

—Volunteering with cats in my community

—WWE and Drag Race…the yin and yang of my interests

My favorite hobbies.. hm.. Aside from gaming, I LOVE listening to music! There's a lot of music I can get lost in for hours, and being autistic makes it even more fun sometimes; because I can listen to the same song over and over and OVER and never get tired of it.

Aside from gaming and music, I do enjoy the following hobbies;

crocheting (despite not being the best at it.. whenever I have to learn something new, I get upset because it's hard ><)

writing (I LOVE writing. Fanfictions, poetry, oc x canon blurbs, roleplaying.. The possibilities are endless!)

collecting trinkets (I used to be really into purse/bag collecting, and I even have a purse organization storage tower where I keep my purse/bag necessities in! I loved the 'pack my bag with me' TikTok trends so much that I decided to hop on board one day xD Aside from collecting bags, I love to collect plushies, cups, anything of my favorite characters.. like Bucky Barnes from the MCU, Pompompurin from Sanrio, Mitsuri from Demon Slayer, Mikey from Tokyo Revengers, etc.. collecting things is both a blessing and a curse to me, because I LOVE spending money, but desperately need to learn how to save my money T^T)

cosplaying (even though I buy most of them, I really enjoy this! I'm not the best with makeup for cosplay though, so that's something I'd like to eventually teach myself, too!)

I'd love to learn or partake in more hobbies this year, though. I don't do much with my life even though I'm 23 and that's when life really should be starting to pick up (at least in my opinion.. maybe I just have a subconscious stigma against it or something).. I'd love to exercise more (going to the gym specifically), learning an instrument (preferably piano, violin, or the clarinet maybe?), learning a new language! I'd love to do so much more this year, because the past few years I haven't done much! I think if I were to learn any language, I'd love to learn Dutch, Russian, German, Korean, or Japanese! I'd also love to learn to make cosplays of my own. A lot of my friends are really crafty and creative when it comes to cosplaying. Maybe I'll get into wig-styling, too! ^_^

Video games, reading, writing, playing billiards, martial arts, watching anime, going hiking, going swimming, etc.

Chess, film, comics, swimming, combat sports, gaming, taking long walks and wandering for hours.

I also like filling out online surveys and mobile game offers for pennies. I've made over $700 from this in 2024. Granted it's not really that much money, but I exclusively use it to pay whatever subscription services I'm interested in. + the extra money is always kinda nice.

TLDR: poetry, reading, writing, drawing, talking, gaming (not very seriously though), and walking.

I don't actually have a lot of hobbies that I do regularly. I think the ones I do the most often are poetry writing, reading (I switch between novels, manga, and fanfiction. Right now I'm in the I-can-only-read-fanfiction state), talking relentlessly with friends, and making dad jokes. They talking doesn't sound like a hobby to be honest, but it's something I really enjoy doing (in the right company. With other people in my school who I don't talk to I freeze up and can't speak).

Some slightly less regular ones are drawing and writing. I don't really write actually stories that much, but I'm getting more into in because of English essay writing. Drawing is something I enjoy, but I lose motivation for it very often. Especially when I'm being forced to draw something in a style I don't like drawing in (being made to do art in school isn't great). Another thing I'm saying I don't do regularly but is still a hobby is walking. I do it most days, but some days I just can't be bothered, so that's why it's in this second category.

This third section is just gaming and despairing. I don't do these all the time, and I take fairly long breaks in between each session.

I don't think many people know about them because hobbies never really come up in conversation unless the person volunteers the information about what they like doing. I think the ones people know least is (in this order): poetry, drawing, writing, gaming, walking, talking, and reading. The dad jokes are very well known, and appreciated by those who understand the importance of terrible puns.

Some hobbies I'd like to get back into are lego and swimming. I used to play with lego all the time until we moved all the boxes into the garage, and now I just don't bother getting them out because the house is cluttered enough. Unfortunately I had to stop swimming due to the lockdowns, and I never went back.

(btw @/Rainbowhorn you should give me your delicious banana bread please and thank you very much)

@Suguri that's a lot of fun stuff! Don't worry about the self esteem, it goes away with time, the things about hobbies is that they're supposed to be things you're allowed to be "bad" at. Nobody behind your neck judging or making you go faster, just the fact that you're taking on so many ways to expand your horizons is great and has value in on itself I think.

@QueenCobra I like burdwatching and taking walks too! Also drawing, but I don't consider myself a very good writter and I stuggle with it quite a lot haha. Drag Race and WWE can be both considered performance arts soooo...

@Mimi Cheems love me some good trinklets, never did cosplay but I'm love to try someday

@Midoriya oooh very athletic! I've been neglecting that for myself in recent months haha... Martial arts are very interesting as a whole to me.

@SkyKnight03 you sound like a wandering mercenary hahaha, cool.

@lasagne_of_death f_death again, even if small the point is for hobbies to bring joy, and if they do that for you then THAT'S the point! Happy to see that you're using them to be creative, that's a great spark to have. Also, I've been thinking on starting a thread where I could drop my baking recipes, banana bread included lol (pssst, or you could DM me for it haha, idk if I could just drop it here, is it thread relevant?)

Yeah, I know. I’ve even seen a tweet saying that pro wrestlers are basically drag queens for straight men. 😂 Sometimes the fashion and performance styles make them feel like opposites though. But the drama and kayfabe/persona creation are pretty much the same.

Thank you! I believe it's because I have to make food in front of/around my parents especially when I'm handling stuff like knives and big ovens since I'm not an adult yet. They can be pretty judgy, and that has affected me in a way. ^^; This is just for cooking/baking, I don't have the same problem with my other hobbies thankfully. :3

- gaming: one of my main hobbies! im trying to expand my library and play on PC more often so I can get off my very limited switch games 😅 I also like rhythm games and am recently getting into Maimai! i was really lucky and got a slot for testing the Maimai-inspired app on my ipad so that's what i'm practicing.

- drawing: another hobby, although very inconsistent w it ;v; there are months where im very in the zone, then after that I can go on weeks without ever drawing LMAO. anyway im trying to delve more into doing small comics so it has a touch of writing as well ^^

- biking: i started biking very recently, im about 3 months in but im enjoying it a lot! :) it gets me out of the house more often & also gets me active and moving so im happy about it.

- baking: also a very recent hobby, I got back to baking last December with the holiday event and since then I've had another round of baking for my irl friends and family and the cookies turned out nice! i want to get more into baking this year ^^

that's all from me right now, i dont really have the time for all those rn since I'm reviewing daily for licensure exam, but i definitely at least game and bike in my free time :) and one of my big goals is to bake a cake in april for my oshi's birthday!

Thanks! I love watching sports, but was never good at any team sports as a kid. I kept trying plenty of them out and none of them gelled with me. Then one Christmas when I was 10 years old I received a coupon for a local martial arts academy, and the rest is history. I'm currently one belt rank away from having a black belt in both Karate and Aikido after having done it for almost 18 years now. To say it's one of the few things I'm most passionate about in life is an understatement.

You don't really have to play sports to stay fit though. Even just walking down the sidewalk or like walking your pet can be beneficial for you too. If there was a sidewalk where I currently live I'd be jogging every day, but there isn't, so I have to use the treadmill for that.

Gaming: Naturally. I've been playing video games since I was like 2-4? My who family got me into it and have been to this day. Nintendo is my favorite but I also play Play Station from time to time

Biking/Walking: Love to get out of the house and move. It helps me clear my mind and exercise makes me feel good. I've always been biking since I was a kid. It's my favorite exercise, but I do walk instead if it's easier of I don't have access to my bike.

Drawing: Another addiction from when I was little, I've always loved to draw. Especially cartoon or video game characters. It's something I've been picking back up on recently. I still do traditional, but hope to get better at digital someday

Music: I love listening to music, it either relaxes me or stimulates my mind depending on the music and mood. A lot of what I listen to give me different vibes or thoughts. It isn't something I actually play myself though, until I recently started learning piano/keyboard. I still need more practice.

Cleaning: I guess cleaning is something I feel I enjoy, if my body is up to the task. It helps me feel productive and accomplished, and having my place neat and organized makes me feel content. I just hate having to clean up for lazy people who think I'm their maid or something.

Thanks! I definitely think you should make a baking thread 😋 I mean, technically if you posted it here you're posting about something that you've done due to your hobby, ie the point of the thread, but that's probably a stretch lol. But yeah, making a place where you can post recipes and baked goods is a brilliant idea 😄

I do a lot of fashion oriented hobbies. In some ways I'd say it's common, but in the aspect that it takes up a large portion of my life I'd say is uncommon. I usually will do my nails every three weeks, too. Another thing I've been doing lately is working on a paper doll game for a few years now. I mainly do moderation and project/UI organization. I also draw items for the game for the asset designers to make if they want to. Cooking I've been trying to do just on Sunday as a way to avoid getting fast food so often. I try to do a different recipe every week, it's good practice! I also like some video games as well, though I've not for a while. I guess I'm just burnt out of the time sink aspect a lot of newer games have these days.

Gaming: I play less than I used to (I was pretty much a gaming addict for several years), but I still play some gacha, platformers, RPGs, indie games, and visual novels.

Reading books: I read 40-50 books a year. There isn't one genre I stick to. I'll read anything if it has interesting themes or an interesting premise.

Listening to music: I'm into indie and alternative rock music.

Making art: I'm a beginner at pixel art and learning to create computer animation.

Writing stories: I'm currently writing the second draft of my first novel and writing a sci-fi short story on the side.

I'm only counting hobbies that I participate in somewhat often, but I do have long-term interests/activities that I do but not all the time, such as reading.

Listening/playing/writing music. I play Clarinet/Bass Clarinet/Eb Clarinet when I feel like it during my free time. I also write music (nothing serious, most aren't original), but it's not something I do often. Unfortunately it's an expensive hobby so I haven't been that active lately.

Skincare/fashion if that even counts. Unfortunately also an expensive hobby 😓

Right now I'm learning Spanish and I plan on learning (Brazilian) Portuguese after. I've though about learning Serbian after because Serbia is a place I've thought about moving to (still gotta do more research). If not, maybe some other Slavic language just as some random goal. I hope I can do that, just worried about burnout.

Stargazing, or anything astronomy-related, but mostly stargazing.
