So I just looked up the house upgrades... no options to enlarge the other rooms?? They stay small?? Whattttt? I don't believe this.. am I misunderstanding? The upgrades are only to ADD a room, not make any of them bigger?? Someone please tell me lol

You're correct. They stay small.

(But as usual I think/hope they other enlargements will be added in a future update)

it appears so - you can add other rooms but it seems that you can’t expand them which sucks. really hope they make that an option in a future update

I'm hoping that too, cuz if that's not the case, this is a downgrade D: how did the house get smaller in the newer game lol

- - - Post Merge - - -

And yet more expensive XD

If the option to expand the other rooms isn't available, it's likely because the focus of the game has shifted from the house so, so much. You can place whatever, wherever, outside, inside, you aren't limited.

While I agree that not being able to expand them would not be fun, I personally could live with it. I don't need a giantic room the same size as my main room for a bathroom or something. I can make it work.

I have a hunch they're trying to coax us away from the idea of just having five massive rooms filled with complete furniture series in this game and the smaller side rooms might be part of that. The furniture I've been getting in this game is much more varied and generalized than getting ten different dressers or beds, it's been giving my creative muscle practice in actually trying to put together a functional-looking home instead of a hoarder's den.

By small do you mean 4x4 or 6x6? Also I could’ve sworn there was a shot of a room that was even bigger than the new leaf rooms. I think it was 8x10.

I just got to the point where I can add another room and Nook wants to put it in the back. No. I don't even have that room in New Leaf. I don't like walking in and seeing a giant black hole on the back wall. Door isn't much better. :(

I also would have liked to keep the first room small...

Really wish they would have let us choose from all size/layout options. Hope we can still have a giant basement.

I wouldn’t mind smaller rooms, but what really bothers me is that the game forces where they go! I didn’t want a back room at all, but that was the only option aside from keeping it a one-room house forever >.>’

The main room is 8x8. The left, right and back rooms are 6x6. The upper and basement floors are 6x10. In New Leaf, all rooms can be expanded to 8x8.

Total expansion cost in New Horizons is 5,696,000. In New Leaf, it costs 7,595,800.

I think it's an okay size, considering the series furniture is absent. Although I am hoping that IF they ever decide to bring those back, Hopefully the 6x6 rooms could be further expanded.

I’m ok with some smaller rooms. I found the ones in previous games too huge and awkward to decorate personally. We still have a fairly big main room at least which makes sense.

I guess because you don't upgrade rooms several times like in NL the total cost is lower, even though it sure feels more expensive. Thats kinda reassuring.

I don't mind the room sizes. I don't remember exactly, but are he doors to the side less centered than in NL? I like that, makew the central room feel less like a corridor.

Yep I wish we could decide where the room goes and also if to upgrade/downgrade! But AC has always been like this :p Anyway I like that the rooms are not as huge as before, and that the basement and attic have that different shape!

I think the central room is the perfect size.. In the earlier games the largest rooms felt way too big to do anything with. However, I do wish all the add-on rooms could be the same size as the current central one. They feel too small!

Yes, the doors to the side are slightly lower and not centered. This detail is what I liked most since I don't have to keep majority of my furniture in the corner.

How much smaller are the rooms? Because they all seem fine to me right now. As far as the main room goes, I've always hated having a big main room because it feels too big to furnish, and I end up trashing it with random items as if it was a storage unit.

The main room is 8x8.

They aren't that significantly small.

personally i don't mind the smaller rooms, but like others have said the fact that the game dictates where new rooms go is a little annoying. i also wish they would let you choose which room(s) to make larger instead of forcing the central room to be the 8x8 one.

its disappointing that there doesn't seem to be a way to upgrade ur room size, but as many others have said im fine with that as i hated the big room sizes in acnl and accf!! i planned to not upgrade the rooms anyway because i wanted a small bathroom and smaller kitchen, so this works with my plans. it's also nice because the nook miles challenge for house size only features all of the upgrades, so if they add room expansions in the future it wont mess up the challenge (i hope).

i think smaller rooms will be easier to decorate. i think many people are caught up on just placing furniture around the perimeter of their rooms, and while that's not bad, it's also not very realisitic (in my opinion). i also have that tendency, so this will just help my decorating skills. there's also the fact that there's just more little decorations; we have an amazing wall decorator function, rugs, and all these cute lil tabletop items so far. keeping the rooms smaller allows us to lose ourselves in details like that, which will also make it seem more realistic.

this game is rly appealing to the inner wannabe hgtv show host i have in me
