How do I earn mementos?

Is there a way to earn them like TBT bells, or is it something totally different? I can't seem to figure it out.

I apologize if this is a frequently asked question or something blatantly obvious. I'm still getting the hang of events.

they were earned through participating in the new year's week event threads for the red balloon world tour event

and as these events are all concluded (with the event shops closing tomorrow), it's impossible to earn any of the event currencies now

Earning Mementos was for the New Years Week event for the Red Balloon Tour. You can't earn em anymore since the event is in the process of wrapping up! Same with Tinsel, Birthday Tickets, and Bad Luck Charms- they were all event currency that you can't earn right now.

You earned them from participating in the events. For example, you could get Mementos from one of the events which was writing down 5 New Years goals.
