How do weeds work?

Does anyone know how weeds work? If you pick up weeds, no matter how they look, they all go into your inventory stacked up as weeds.

But are they actually tracked for their weed type behind the scenes? So for example, if I went out of my way to only pick up the clover-type weeds, and then I go plant them in another area, would they actually all show up as clovers? Or are they randomly generated with their looks again?

I am curious for reasons of landscaping and possibly using specific types of weeds for certain areas. I have not tried this yet myself but wanted to know if others had.

Weeds are all the same in the inventory, and stack in packs of 99

I know that part, I just mean for purposes of how they look. I can see landscaping possibilities with these weeds, but there's several different types for how they look. If I wanted to hoard 1 specific type for landscape reasons, I wondered if that would work or not.

I guess I'll have to give this a try myself if no one knows. Just a certain somebody (my husband) decided to be a weed vacuum for bells reasons yesterday and we can't cross the river to access the other 60% of the island yet, so I don't know how many weeds I'll have access to today (Day 2 for me).

For some reason when I plant them no matter what type they were they'll come out as clovers or smaller clumps of weeds. I can't seem to replant the ones with little flowers on them even if they were the ones I picked. Still cool being able to replant them though.

Interesting! I wonder if that was just bad luck, or maybe we really can only get certain types when we replant.

OK, I think I officially have a NH thing to test now!

I think its a time thing, ive been time traveling to test certain things like flower and tree growth along with stuff like weeds and i think the longer its left there the bigger it gets, OR it could just be random.

I'm still not understanding. They may have multiple ground models, but they are the same object nonetheless, and are all the same I'm the inventory too. Same applies for crafting.

Yeah OP is just wondering about the earlier weed stage used for landscaping purposes. The clover was a popular landscaping option for natural paths in ACNL, and so far the weeds are the closest thing to it unless you make a pattern to replicate it.

I've thought about using weeds to landscape as well, but all weeds have a growth cycle like a flower would. I'd like to know your weed test but I think it's randomised because like JKODS said, they all share the same object data. So technically, even if you place your weeds and they plant as baby weeds, eventually they will grow into the mature weeds. Might be a thing to consider if you are going to fill your town with "baby weeds" for something like paths! You may have to maintain them occasionally if you don't want the mature weeds to be part of your landscaping.

Ah, OK. I didn't realize they were all the same thing, but in different stages of growth. I was just assuming they were randomly different weeds. Think of the real world, where you can have clovers, dandelions, nutsedge (I hate this stuff), and all different varieties of plants that are considered weeds growing up in the middle of your lawn.

Thanks everyone! I guess I probably won't use them for landscaping then, unless I end up making a woodsy area that I want to look natural with weeds randomly growing around it.
