do you tear it down open from the side or do you pull the opening apart on top?

Edit cos ppl find tearing from the side weird: a lot of potato chip bags in asian countries are designed in a way that can be teared slowly from the side as they have these ridges on top. They can also be teared apart on top too of course.

Usually apart at the top, depends on the brand though some you have to cut open.

Also by the top I refer to grabbing the sides so the top opens, if that was unclear.

I mean...there is only one right way to open a standard bag of chips...and anyone who doesn't open one properly is a terrorist as far as I'm concerned. Lol. But, for real...you pull the sides, so the top opens along the actual seal. Only exception is if the bag is resealable, or has some other sort of gimmick...which is pretty rare. 😗

One must be civilized in how one opens a bag of chips. Carefully tug at the front and back to open it along the top seal. Alternatively, cut the top of the bag off, so it is neat.

Then use a binder clip to keep it closed.

Pull it apart at the top, and usually accidentally rip it somehow while doing so due to clumsiness.

From the top. What kind of maniac goes at it from the side?

I'm sorry, do people actually rip the bag.... along the left or right side?
Won't the chips fall out? How do you close the bag? Do you just... eat the whole bag? Better for sharing, great for parties??

Yeah, opening from the side sounds pretty weird to be honest. In that instance you’re purposefully going out of your way to try and open it a way it wasn’t meant to be opened.

I open it from the top.

I open the top where the seal is...
We have a food saver thing, so we can re-seal it after opening. Trying to re-seal it if opened sideways wouldn't work too well, at least not with the bag design in the states.

I'm assuming the sideways open ones probably are smaller portion or individual portion size though vs the large bags?

always from the top. i try once or twice on the top if it's difficult to do so (some cheap ones usually) i just tear on the side lol sorry because that hurts your hands if you try force it

I always pull it open from the top or cut it along the top if the seal is being uncooperative. I've never seen a potato chip bag that could be opened from the side before, although I have seen candy in bags like that occasionally, usually not from the US. I still open them from the top, though.

I open my bag of chips from the top, all the way open.

My sister, however... opens it from the bottom to annoy me.

I always try to open a bag of chips from the top. If I try to tear from the side, I have to squeeze my hand in just to grab a piece and I could potentially rip the bag further to make a mess all over the place.

I pull the front and back so it opens at the top. Where I am that's how they're designed so you'd just make a huge mess if you tried to open the side.

A side opening would be cool though, to not get grease on your arm when you reach into the bag.

You open crisps from the top here, a side opening sounds interesting though. I don't actually eat them all that often anymore because I find them too salty.

by side do you mean just ripping a little corner off from the side at the top? i only ever do that if the bag is small enough, otherwise it's opened from the top for me.

i prefer to pull the top apart, but sometimes there's chip bags that have been sealed with the strongest seal ever and i have no choice but to rip the side down
