Hello friends, I really want to hear some of your opinions on this! As a pretty big amiibo collector (all Splatoon, Animal Crossing, and Pikmin) this just shocks and disappoints me even more. I recently made a comment in the Switch 2 game price thread about this but it really deserves its own thread. I already thought the markups for the new Splatoon amiibo were outrageous (which is why I never purchased the new sets) but this is crazy.

The link doesn't show Amiibos for me.

Everything is going up in price, so I am not surprised. That doesn't mean I'll buy them, though. I don't have a job, anyway... That's not going to work.
I wasn't even able to get any of the last Amiibos I wanted because of that.

20 bucks a piece for the TOTK sage amiibos? WHAT???

Thanks a lot, tariffs. I’m still gonna get all 4 tho. Especially Tulin and Riju. But yeah, the prices would NOT be this high if ‘she’ was in charge.

My current poverty does not help AT ALL. 😭😭😭

FORK TARIFFS. ⬆️$$$⬆️

How much are they normally? I don't buy Amiibos, but they look larger and have more grooves and details than animal crossing Amiibos.

I voted that I think it's fine, bc in my experience from the last few years, amiibos have been like $22-30. pretty sure when I got my Zelda Loftwing amiibo from GS a year or so ago it was about $24. $20 for a regular amiibo sounds like a steal to me. in fact, a lot of the amiibos listed on Walmart's website are anywhere between $24 and about $60, and they go higher, especially the Smash/SF ones. and it's been like that long before tariffs happened.

if the regular amiibos were sold for a flat $20 and Smash/SF amiibos were sold for a flat $30, yeah I guess I'd say that's pretty pricey, but it's about where my expectations have been for a while, and also why I don't really collect amiibos in the first place.

I remember paying $20-30 for like half of my amiibos. Including tLoZ ones, although I don't have any of those specifically mentioned in the op. So the price doesn't surprise me. Maybe I got some more popular or harder to find ones though? I can't say I ever paid too close attention to what the values are supposed to be. Also I haven't bought an amiibo in maybe a year or two because I feel like I have enough for now.

I already don’t buy amiibo very much, so this doesn’t affect me. I can imagine that being really annoying for collectors, though. Like 5 extra bucks for an amiibo once a year really doesn’t matter, but 5 more per amiibo when you buy them in lots sounds awful

I remember when they first launched at like $13, lol. I’m more selective with amiibo collecting now, so I don’t mind tooooo much since the figures are so detailed. Honestly, I just want them to do more than one-time cosmetic unlockables. I think Smash Bros and (dare I say) amiibo festival had the best usage of them.

All amiibo from 2015 - 2020 retailed for $12.99 at release! Nintendo recently increased the price to $15.99 around 2021. I always waited for restocks because I think its crazy that almost all figures are $25+ in the second-hand market.

I wonder if Nintendo has plans for Mario kart world and Amiibos. That is a lot of mula.
I have heard they are done with the smash series, and I know a lot of people bought amiibo figures for that.
I guess they could do more with Amiibos for Mario party too. Or even make a new game that uses Amiibos a lot.
Hopefully they will provide card options that are cheaper and are the same key.
And I am sure there are people out there who would be happy to collect both figures and cards.

I'm mostly out of the amiibo collecting game and have been for years. I already own a bunch of the amiibo that I want, though there are some older ones that I'm still interested in acquiring (Blathers, Celeste, Daisy, Rosalina, Waluigi).

$20 for the standard amiibo is fine, the prices were already in the teens back in the days when I was more in the market anyway so $20 isn't that much more. That's about my comfort range. I can see having to pay $30 or more on the secondhand market due to rarity (like I did for Alm & Celica double pack and the Boo amiibo that glows in the dark), but I wouldn't really be comfortable paying that much for a new amiibo at a retail store. While I'm a lifelong fighting game fan, and like Street Fighter 6, I'm glad that I don't really have any interest in acquiring these three Street Fighter 6 amiibo. I'd probably be more annoyed if there were amiibo for some of my favorite Street Fighter characters like Chun Li, Dhalsim, Sagat, Vega, Zangief etc. that I would be more interested in acquiring.

I'm pretty particular about amiibo. I have a friend who collects every amiibo, but I have to really care about the particular character or franchise to want to spend the money on these little figures. Like, I have all of the Fire Emblem amiibo except for Chrom (partly because I'm not particularly fond of him, partly just didn't get around to it yet) and Corrin (I really dislike Corrin and Fire Emblem Fates as a whole). It would take a character that I'm really interested in to get me to confront these retail prices.

I'm also not a person who collects figures; I made exceptions for amiibo because of the low price point and because they have additional functionality for games. I'm not going to spend hundreds of dollars for some statue of Ike or some other game or anime character I like, and there's definitely a market for those expensive figures and statues out there, but $20 or so for a little amibo is justifiable for me.

Realistically, I don't think $20-$30 is too bad compared to other products on the market. I wouldn't be too surprised if the tariffs and their effects on the economy long term don't drve the prices higher anyway.

I only get Amiibo that are well designed and of characters that I like.

*edit* I just saw the TotK Champion Amiibo and I do like them and will be getting them. Zelda is one of the series of Amiibo that I will buy immediately if I see them.
