How do you feel about the 'Rolling Log' effect in NH?

I really like it. I'm not opposed to Animal Crossing (GCN)'s acre system, or any other kind of change, but the cylindrical town has been a feature that is just a staple of the series at this point.

Yeah, it gives you the feel of really walking around. :)

As others have said, it feels like the Animal Crossing aesthetic now. It helps show off that blue, blue sky, which lets things feel less claustraphobic than the top-down view.

It also adds the illusion of the world feeling bigger than it actually is, which I like. Animal Crossing villages are actually quite small in absolute terms, but by hiding the horizon with the rolling log it makes the world feel much bigger.

It's kind of like when old console games that had to use fog to lower the draw distance get ported or emulated to modern systems with the fog removed - you suddenly see how small the world really is and it loses something.

I honestly don't really mind it. But -- and this might sound strange -- I think that the flat world rather than the rolling log world is more nostalgic to me. If it weren't rolling log I feel like it might feel bigger, if that makes sense? It'll feel more like the Gamecube game, which is soooo super nostalgic!

What would be cool, but wouldn't ever happen likely lol, is if we could turn it off/on. And choose if we wanted it rolling log. But again, I highly doubt they'd care to feature that (or that it is something reasonable to ask in the first place.)

I love it! It makes it feel like a small world but there's just something so charming and AC to it! I started with WW and so I'm used to it hehe〜 ♡ It's like a chibi sort of thing ☆〜(ゝ。∂)

Same as above, I started with WW so it's what I'm used to, would not feel like AC to me if it wasn't. Plus I've had some great views of the sky, double rainbows and an aurora just last night

i love the rolling pin world effect but i think it looks nice when it's not as dramatic. when i got back to the gamecube version of the game though i honestly even forget about how the land is flat. the game having to load other acres bothered me a lot more.

I've never been a fan of the rolling log effect. Maybe it's a result of starting with the GCN game, but I find the constant feeling of being on a cylinder kind of jarring. While I'm not sure that I necessarily want the abrupt screen transitions associated with the acre system to return, I would prefer more of the feel of the GCN game.

That said, I've gotten used to the rolling log over the years, so it'll be fine. But I wish they would increase the radius of the cylinder a bit more to make the effect of walking a small distance feel somewhat less like being on a rolling pin.

I hate it. Why can?t we have a camera ? la Breath of the Wild? It was maybe necessary on the DS, but it?s certainly not in 2020

I think it'd feel a little weird to play an Animal Crossing game without it, but I wouldn't mind if they took it away. As long as it doesn't do what Gamecube did I will be 100% fine. That would give me a bad headache lol.

I absolutely love the effect since it's part of the game. I can't imagine Animal Crossing without it anymore. It makes the world feel bigger and adds this sense of freedom and exploration, even though you're actually sitting in a rather small sandbox. Praise the rolling log!

I like it, I think it’s charming and uniquely Animal Crossing. I’m quite curious though how ACNH would have been without the rolling log effect.

I?m strongly in favor of the ?rolling log? effect. As others have said, its a very distinct look. I remember seeing it for the first time, and its something that made Animal Crossing really catch my eye.

It also serves a practical function. It lets us see what?s ahead, the horizon, and the sky, while eliminating the need for camera management. The top-down view in the first game kind of eliminates any sense of a bigger space. And forcing players to manage a camera is not really in the spirit of Animal Crossing because it?s not an action game. Remember a lot of people still struggle with 3D camera management in games. It?s kind of an advanced skill for a lot of people. The ?rolling log? effect solves all these problems while also giving the game a very distinctive look.

I love it.
