I was making a sandwich the other day and I realized there’s always certain things I have to put in it.

I usually choose a telera or torta roll to make my sandwiches if I have a choice. I toast them in toaster or on the stove. I prefer ham over all others meats. I like cheese, Muenster or Monterey Jack. I like mayo and a little bit of mustard on the bread or else it’s too dry for me. I like fresh lettuce, tomato, and avocado. If I have alfalfa sprouts, even better. I finish it off with chips lol. Yes, I’m one of those people that puts the chips inside if I have them.

How do you like your sandwiches?

My sandwiches always need mayo. End of story. Everything else could be different but if it doesn't have mayo, it's not as enjoyable.

I usually prefer wraps to bread slices but I won't complain. I like sliced meat, cucumbers, cheese (usually cut pieces or goats), celery, mayo and dijon mustard. Sometimes lettuce, depends on the day.

If on bread, always toasted slices. It's so meh with untoasted slices. Buttered bread of course too.

Omg y'alls have so much good stuff like veggies in your sandwitches. I don't lol.

It depends on the sandwitch but usually I have mustard and some sort of cheese. Let's say an italian sandwitch, I put genoa salami, pepperoni and a LITTLE BIT of sweet slice ham, otherwise the ham will over power the taste of the salami and pep. I put provolonge cheese, mustard, a hoagie bun and some Italian dressing, and chips on the side if I feel like it.

Nearly any sandwitch, if not all I have, HAVE to have cheese. I love cheese.

@Corrie it’s interesting you say butter because I’d never been accustomed to buttering my bread for sandwiches. When I was visiting Spain, I remember they had ham and butter sandwiches and I found it so interesting.

I’ll eat most sandwiches, but I really hate hot deli meat. If it’s like chicken breast pieces, I’m ok if it’s hot, but hot sandwich meat, especially ham, makes me wanna barf. Cold sandwiches are the way to go imo. Bonus points if there are banana peppers.

Well, only when it's toasted. Otherwise I don't bother. Ew what, just ham and butter and that's it?

@Corrie yeah, those were sold in the stores prepackaged. I was like, “okay” lol. Something new.

I’ll do toast with butter and jam.

Hm, interesting! I definitely wouldn't be opposed though lol, maybe due to the fact that they're those prepackaged sandwiches I'd say no. They're usually mushy.

Side note, have you ever had rusks? Or twice baked bread they're also called? They're great with butter and jam! Or even cream cheese.

If my sandwich doesn't have mayonnaise I don't care for that; I'd eat it but meh. No lettuce, ever. I love salad but I'm not eating a sandwich to have bread salad. Most importantly I do not like my bread toasted; not sub rolls, not sliced bread, not wraps, not even burgers (I actually just don't like toast itself anyway). Also if it's not a BLT I pretty much don't put bacon on my sandwich; I don't feel like I can usually even taste it that much and plus I'd have to make bacon.

Beyond that I think my favorite things to put on a sandwich would be thinly sliced tomatoes, olives, cucumber slices, sliced pickles, banana peppers, cheese (provolone, muenster, cheddar, or sliced mozzarella balls), baby spinach, and sometimes I put a couple of potato chips in there for a particular kind of crunch.

Hmm... turns out sandwiches are more complicated than I previously thought. I never put much thought into them but now looking at my post I'm like "well aren't you Mr. Particular over here."

@Corrie ah yeah the dry, hard bread. I do like it. Nothing beats freshly baked and toasted bread though. When I was in Vancouver, our air bnb had a tiny boulangerie nearby and omg delicious! Had toast and jam every morning.

I am a vegetarian so no meat on my sandwiches. Most of the time I just pack it full of veggies and shove plain potato chips inside as I eat it.
Sometimes, but not often I like fake meat type sandwich with chao cheese and multi grain bread. I don’t put vegetables in it but I like to eat it with salad.

@Altyran haha interesting to think about, huh? I’m sure it all comes down to taste preferences but I also think it’s regional. I didn’t think sandwiches were complicated either but when I saw how others make theirs I realized how many options there are!

@Reneezombie what’s chao cheese? Also any brands you like for meat substitutes?

Yeah exactly! I was like "oh sandwiches what an easy topic, I'll just aoiaogdasfoa[goawiejgawegiha[oriWCIUEbpfewba[owrg[wefojaew" and then I'd written two paragraphs and a blurb.

For example I had no idea anyone put butter on their sandwiches so that was a surprise!

It’s the only fake cheese I’ll eat. It tastes like the cheese you get from subway. Tofurkey the names make me laugh. It took me a long time to like that stuff and I get tired of it really fast.

I choose whole grain bread, mayo (typically Hellmann's) white american cheese, deli turkey for meat, and lots of lettuce. For chicken or tuna salad sandwich... toasted white bread, mayo, and chopped celery.

Have you tried Yves fake deli meats? I found the turkey to be the only nasty one. Such a weird chemically taste, hard to describe. The bologna is the best one in my opinion.

@Altyran I didn’t either! And that was the only option. We were traveling so had to grab something quick. It wasn’t bad, just different.

Ahhhhh that sounds absolutely lovely!! Fresh baked items are the BEST to get and totally worth the travel and price.

No, it looks familiar though. I’ll keep an eye out for it and try it!

I put the two pieces of bread together and then put it in the toaster so it's warm and crispy on the outside but soft in the middle 😊
