I've seen people run art shops and I want to run one myself since I'm a semi-decent drawer. The problem is I'm not sure where to start. I can't offer a real example of my art since my artstyle changes everytime I draw, and I'm nervous of what I'll have to draw. Should I start off just drawing users' Animal Crossing characters and sell them for a small amount of TBT? I couldn't find a guide on how to run an art shop, so I posted a thread here to ask.

I'm the same way. I've posted art shops on different forums before- not knowing what I was doing. I struggle with my style as well, it's like a mix between 3 different styles and it's very difficult for me to draw in a specific style I have done in the past. However, since this is the case you can simply just show a few examples and state how your style may not be the same as the references, but similar. I'm sure people will keep that in mind while ordering from you.

You can start off drawing whatever you feel comfortable with, and be sure to state what you CAN and CAN'T draw- most people will and should respect that. Just keep in mind- it's your hard work! You can simply decline the commissions you feel unable to do. Also, never under-price your artwork as that could discourage you and make the shop feel like a chore in the process. You could also look at other people's art shops and get an idea of prices, etc.. Just do whatever you feel if comfortable for you, but also follow the forum rules and you should be good!

Correct me if I'm wrong in some way, anyone. I'm always available for some enlightenment, too. ;)

The problem is I switch it up completely all the time. You know, kind of like a box of chocolates.

I wish you luck with your art. I hope I can get a true answer soon.

You could always do a grab bag sort of thing? Since your art changes so much?

Alright, I suppose I can try that and see what works best.

Thank you everyone for helping me.

I've seen artists leave prices up to the clients by making them offer. This can be a good idea if you're not sure how much your art is worth and if you get offers, you'll probably notice a range. But definitely post examples of your work. The more examples, the better idea people have and know what to expect.

I've also seen some shops have multiple posts. It's not necessary for someone who is starting out but can help make things look nice. When you want to start your shop, make sure posts are at least 30 minutes apart if you're doing multiple posts. I've noticed some people have their art styles, info, and order form on the first post and then have slots/waitlist on the second post. But honestly, it's all up to your preference. There's no official rule on how to run a shop. Just make sure you have time to spare. If you want to get a feel of things, limit your slots so you don't get overwhelmed.

Good luck! :)

I'd say just give the refs and say you'll get something along the lines of -insert piccys-
im sure people will be fine with it :)
bedisdes your art is amazing

Slots. Please have slots.

I opened an art shop once for avatars and signatures, and it was a mistake. People wanted my stuff, which was great, but I couldn't keep up at all. Slots are a must, in my opinion. And don't have too many. Have four or five slots, depending on what you do.
