How old were you when you started drawing?

Uhh I think I started when I was 7, but I've only started drawing again recently (January last)

I genuinely can't remember because I think I was drawn to drawing from the moment I was able to hold a pencil. I remember already in kindergarten I was always in the art corner drawing, and my mom has binders and binders of childhood drawings. Once I entered school it really took off, I started copying animals from thick picture books and lexicons (queue: horse and dolphin phase), started copying Pokémon and other stuff, loved making up outfits and draw them on empty mannequins... And I guess I just never stopped :) there were times I drew less, but always came back to it.

I started at around 4, but I never spent much time doing it since I didn't enjoy it and ended up never making any progress. My hand naturally shakes when I hold objects like pens or markers, making drawing well basically impossible. Instead, I do pixel art. I don't have to worry about handshaking and can still make decent-looking pieces.

I drew like everyone else whenever I started using crayons. Aside from that, I drew throughout my childhood and drew a bit too in middle school and a little in high school, though much less in high school. I started drawing more again between 2020 and 2021. I stopped drawing sometime when I took my hiatus in 2022, maybe later (I can’t remember if I continued to draw for the beginning part of my break). I drew for the tbt fair, halloween event and now I’m drawing for the secret santa art exchange and draw the user above you 🙂. I’m still a beginner at art.

I obviously don't remember now, but probably as soon as I could pick up a pencil. I do background and things with calming vibes.

I was 5 and I had my brother's Captain Underpants books with me. I'd draw on this easel we used to have while mimicking Dav Pilkey's art style, and it pretty much went from there.

I don't remember my exact age when I first started to draw, but I know I've always been interested in art. I want to do my own illustrations for my ongoing story.

I developed and practiced my skills by drawing my favorite cartoon characters. I used to draw Courage the Cowardly Dog and Hamtaro ALL the time, but as I grew older I found my own unique style and started creating my own OCs. I still have tons of my early drawings and ideas. I'm glad too because I can see how much I've improved and how much my drawing style has changed over the years.

I never liked doing that whole step-by-step process where you draw the outline first then add/erase details as you go along. I don't know what it's called, but it's that rough sketch thing aka the circle from that one Spongebob episode where he takes art lessons. I just have a natural ability to draw without using that technique. I mainly draw from memory and by visualizing, but sometimes I do need to look at a reference to get the smaller details and colors right.

I never need to trace. I'm most comfortable drawing animals, fantasy and nature, but I can do humans too if I really put my heart into it. I like to think that my art style is a little bit of everything, and I can adjust it and experiment with it here and there.

I've been drawing basically all my life, but I started actively doing digital art when I was 9 (before that, I'd usually just scribble in MS Paint). I also started making OCs (mostly Pokemon/Animal Jam-inspired animal girls, I'm pretty sure) when I was about 8.

Well...I was a wee little tot when I started doodling. Fun stuff...til I entered middle school, then my parents and teachers told me to knock it off. Tried to get back into drawing in high school art, but the teacher wanted me to draw realistically. Ended up giving up on that, and I didn't draw again until a couple of decades later because commissions are getting too high for me to afford. Seriously, I swear a sketch costs more than a PS5 deluxe edition game!

I actually didn't know I could draw until I took the beginner art class in high school as a senior. So, maybe 17? I needed an easy grade to barely graduate high school so I chose that class as an elective.

It turns out, I actually had a little talent and my teacher was mad at me that I waited until my senior year to start her classes. But I had no idea!

I think a lot of people have talents they aren't aware of, and like me, they never tried because they assumed they couldn't do it, or they never tried or looked for assistance in learning.

I know I am going off topic here, but it proves my point... my Grandmother never knew she could paint, until she retired and took a class in her retirement community. She was in her 60's and discovered it was easy for her, and she was so talented! I have one of her paintings hanging in my house now.

If you are reading this thread and think you can't draw, maybe you should try!

I want to say probably about 5? I did have this one toy that had lights that showed basic shapes, letters, and numbers. You put a piece of paper over it and traced the lights. If you count that, then it would be earlier than 5 but I don't know how much earlier.
I also had a pike of stencils, (they were awesome and my mom regretted not keeping them) but I don't remember what age I got them. I just know I had them before we moved, and we moved when I was 6, right before I started kindergarten.
But I loved drawing for years and years, and I stopped in my mid teens. I liked doing pencil drawings without color.

I've been drawing since I was a little kid, but I never committed to it. I like my coloring books, my alcohol textmarkers and am completely content with that.

Whenever I could hold a crayon.

I got big into fan art around 7-8. Drew several issues of an original comic around 10. Took arts & crafts courses throughout school and college and drew a lot in my free time then as well. I went on to do a creative arts degree in another medium.

My current WIP is inspired by a subject my aunt used to draw for me to colour whenever I went to stay with her as a kid.

I suppose I started drawing before I can remember, as kids tend to do. I enjoyed art in high school, and enjoyed drawing/learning to draw casually after that, but it wasn't until 2021 that I actually started focusing on it more as a hobby.

My mother tells me I've been drawing "ever since I could pick up a pencil". So I guess practically my whole life is the easiest/most straightforward answer. It did feel common among other kids though, since drawing has always kinda been an activity you do when you're young.
