I’m actually curious to see how popular Oddish and its relatives are. While not all Gen I Pokémon are popular enough, I see Oddish once in a while. Is it a fan favorite like Lapras and Arcanine? Scorned like Unown and Luvdisc? Forgettable like Doduo and Seel? Or somewhere in the middle?

I would also like to know what your opinion on Oddish is. Do you like it, hate it, or are neutral to it?

Neutral to it to be honest. Agree with Mr_Persona that it’s just kind of boring.

I think he's pretty popular! these guys think he's boring, but i like his dumb face
he has no nose... he has no arms... plus his cry is really silly sounding too
he's a dork i love him

It's memorable to me because of that dang odd one out game in Pokemon Channel. I liked how they swayed to the music though.

I like Oddish's line better than Bellsprout's line. Minus Bellossom, because I don't like Bellossom as an evolution of Gloom.

Oddish is one of my brother’s favourite Pokémon! I also like Oddish too, they’re so cute!

I like oddish~ are they a favorite Pokémon of mine? No. I’d say they are somewhere in between for me, but I do find them rather cute! Definitely forgettable for people who find gen 1 as their least favorite generation of Pokémon. But I love the first generation, it’s what I grew up with.

In the vast landscape of Pokemon, Oddish is pretty meh.

But, in terms of the original 151...I do remember favoring Oddish over a number of the others. I definitely liked Oddish more than the Bellsprout evos. If you wanted a grass-type, you didn't have too many options back then. To me, Bulbasaur and his evos are obviously the best grass type in those early games. But, Oddish was right below that. If I didn't have a Bulbasaur (which was usually the case, since I'd typically choose Squirtle or Charmander) then, yeah...I would usually have Oddish/Gloom/Vileplume in my squad just to have a grass type. I think that's probably where any sort of fandom came from...just those early memories of using Oddish instead of the less desirable alternatives. I'm sure that people then went on to develop an actual fondness for Oddish. But, I think the initial popularity arose from circumstance.

Anyway...in Red/Blue/Green/Yellow, I'd probably consider Oddish a B-tier Pokemon just for the reason stated above. I had those evos in my team almost every time I played the game. So...I couldn't really rank it any lower than that. In the later games, I'd give it a solid C-tier just because the nostalgia holds up.

I'm pretty indifferent about Oddish itself, it's okay but I like all of its evolutions better than it. I like that it's probably based off of the mythological style of mandrake, but that doesn't do all that much for it because its design, while sort of cute, isn't that remarkable to me. I don't really dislike any Pokémon, I have favorites and those I like less than my favorites, and Oddish just sort of gets lost in the shuffle.

I'd say Vileplume's probably somewhere in my top 100 favorite Pokémon (I'd have to actually rank them all at some point to know for sure, so just guessing), and Bellossom's pretty nice as well, so I appreciate Oddish for being the start of the evolutionary line, but that's about it.

I have no idea and no concern about popularity, because all of our individual Pokémon preferences are personal and subjective. A lot of people bemoan and hate the Vanilluxe line and the Garbodor line, but I like them, and any of those Pokémon could be someone's favorite. Everyone likes whatever Pokémon they like, it's whatever.

I'm personally not a big Oddish fan, but I know someone who is. He even has an Oddish plushie attatched to his backpack lol. I like Oddish' evolutions better though.

I don't know. I think the Oddish line is meh at best. Not saying there aren't any fans, just saying that the Oddish line isn't popular like Gengar. I should know. My favourite Gen 1 Grass type is Victreebel (Blue was my first game. Victreebel is Life!) and he isn't too popular either. So...it also doesn't help that Vileplume is pretty mediocre competitively. Why use Vileplume when Venusaur is a better Grass/Poison? Other Gen 1 mons like Lapras (Gmax) have new found love because of their competitive competence so being good in battle helps mons a lot in their popularity.

Oddish never appealed to me. I’m a fan of the more known evolution lines like Gengar. I don’t think grass type Pokémon are all that popular to begin with, and Oddish falls into the lesser-known grass types. It’s not a terrible Pokémon by any means, but you can’t mention it in a conversation about Pokémon and expect people to know what you’re talking about. Then again, no Pokémon is really like that other than Pikachu, and maybe the three starter Pokémon in the first generation.

I don’t think there is such thing as a popular Pokémon. People will like the Pokémon they like. It’s personal preference. I thought a few Pokémon were cool that would just suck in competitive battles.

not like it matters to note since op quit the site, but neither unown nor luvdisc is a gen 1 pokemon.

as for me, i like oddish well enough. i like poison types in general so it scores points with me for that, and i think it’s cute. fun to use, too.

Well its most common grass type Pokemon to have if you were playing Red/Blue, FireRed/LeafGreen, or Lets go Pikachu and Eveee. They are useful for the first Gym that uses Rock type Pokemon that is if you picked Charmander as your starter and you needed something to counter Rock types.

i hate to be the bearer of bad news but you can't catch oddish until after that gym in rgb/frlg 😅

I absolutely looove Oddish and Vileplume! Oddish just became a strange favorite of mine. I guess you can say that is was kind of Odd-ish lol I don't think they are too popular though as I don't see too many people use Vileplume or Gloom? I could be wrong though!
