I feel like there isn't enough storage in ACNL. It's one of my biggest complaints for the game. So I'm really hoping they make big changes for the Switch version. I was thinking about this today and this is how I wish it would work:
Pockets:
Have a toolbox where all your tools go. I hate that I have to use my mail to store tools right now, otherwise they just take up too much pocket space. It's just super inconvenient the way it is right now. The toolbox can just go into the corner beside the mail button.
I think that 20 would be a good amount of pocket slots. Fruits and bells should auto stack when you pick them up so you don't have to keep pausing to do it manually. Then my idea is to have backpack/purse items that you actually wear. This will be like an inventory upgrade, except it only adds to your pocket space when in use. I don't usually need a lot of pocket space in my daily routine in my town. But on days where I am landscaping or decorating my house, I tend to ALWAYS run out of space. So whenever I am planning to be carrying around a lot more stuff, I will put on a backpack which will add another 20! Then when I don't need it anymore, it can just be dropped off at home as a cute looking item, ready to be used next time.
Bicycle:
I really want bicycles in the new game since I think it would be really adorable (Imagine riding around in one and you put a helmet on as you pedal, ringing your bell - lol). You could add a basket to it and that will act as another storage of maybe 20 slots. Kind of like my backpack idea, but you just park it outside instead of inside the house, so it's probably better suited to store some landscaping items.
Pattern Storage:
You should be able to access 20 patterns from your menu instead of 10. I like keeping my favourite outfits in these slots but they're always used up by the paths. Then the storage at the Able Sisters should hold at least 200. You can put the patterns that you used for paths in the storage if you want, without having them get changed/deleted in the town. If you customize some furniture with your own pattern, you should be able to delete it or store it without the furniture reverting back to original form.
Storage Furniture:
I think that there should be at least 6 category pages, so like A, B, C, D, E, F (better if you can label these yourself), then have 150 slots for each page. I don't know about you guys, but I like to store the clothes I love to wear in my storage furniture, but I always run out. Even if you don't use your storage this way, I still think that this amount/system will be beneficial to anyone's play style.
The fridge items should be a separate storage. Similar to Stardew Valley, I would love to keep all my food items in the fridge. There are so many cute drinks and dishes in the game that I like to sometimes switch out every now and then from displaying in my kitchen/dining room. It just doesn't make sense that I'd open a fridge and there would be clothing and furniture in there. Fridges can probably have less storage space than regular storage furniture, but I always think the more, the better. Things you can put in here are fruits, any food/drink items, and even the ingredients that you get from the Thanksgiving event like flour and sugar, etc. If cooking is implemented in the Switch game, this is where you pull ingredients out of automatically when you're trying to cook!
Secret Storage Alternative:
The secret storage was added for the Welcome Amiibo update, and although it was very much appreciated, I still think that it is most definitely NOT enough storage for the amount of non-orderable items/collectibles in the game. I really think that there should honestly be at least 5x the amount of storage that they gave you for the secret storage. But my idea is that maybe, if there is another Main Street (or whatever version they have in the Switch game), there will be an unlockable building there that is kind of like a U-Haul Storage Unit building (but with a much cuter name obvs). This is how it will work:
+ When it first opens, you get 100 storage slots. The requirement to unlock this should be relatively easy.
+ Then the next upgrade, you get 350 slots. This should be a little harder to obtain. This is around the same size as the secret storage available in New Leaf now. This is the level that you will kind of be stuck with for a while.
+ The next upgrade will be unlimited storage, and to unlock this, the requirement would be on the level of completing your museum/encyclopaedia. This way, it doesn't feel cheap. Unlimited storage shouldn't just be given to the player, but it should be a reward that is earned and incentivises the player to do a certain task for this amazing reward.
This storage can only be accessed in that building and will feature a search function.
What do you guys think of my ideas? I've never seen anyone really go in depth and create their own ideas for how storage should be handled in the game so I thought I'd do it
