Am I doing something wrong? I can't seem to figure out how to bump my posts without it auto-merging. I read that maybe it's a time limit thing, but I'm not sure as I've been struggling with this problem a lot recently. I'd really appreciate some help! Thank you!

Yes, there's a time limit for bumps and it varies in certain boards of the forum.
Here's a quote on that section from the Official Rules and Guidelines:
  • Thread Bumping
Bumping on The Bell Tree is defined as posting the word "bump" or other variant for the sole purpose of bringing the thread to the top of the board index for increased visibility. To avoid excessive and unnecessary posting on the forum, users must abide by the following guidelines when bumping:
    • Threads in trading boards should not be bumped until the thread is inactive for at least four hours.
    • Due to the slower rate of posting in the Animal Crossing amiibo Card Post Office board, threads may only be bumped after eight hours of inactivity.
    • Threads in the Nook's Cranny board may be bumped after two hours of inactivity.
    • The bumping of discussion threads is not permitted; i.e. you may not post solely to bump the thread. You must have something on-topic to say when posting in a discussion thread, and the thread topic must still be relevant.
    • Posting a contributory reply in a general discussion thread is permitted and is not classified as a bump, no matter the age of the thread.

I think that they should change the limit on the trading threads.

I've stopped trading on this website because there is so much activity going on right now that my threads get pushed off the first two pages right away so I struggled to make sales. Been forced to take my trading elsewhere.

That's pretty much the reason why they changed it, assuming you're talking about the Nook's Cranny board. It also used to be 4hrs per bump, but due to how much activity there was on the board they changed it to 2 hrs instead. Sure, it didn't completely solve the issue of threads being pushed off into oblivion, but it at least made it a little easier to have them stay on the first few pages for a bit longer.

Even then, popular threads will always push out the new ones since each new post by another person is essentially a free bump reset. I know how struggling sales or purchases feels like, but there's not much we can do about it ourselves. I hope that your trading experience elsewhere has been pleasant though.

Yeah, I stopped trading on here because 4 hours was just too much. 2 hours is better, but still nowhere near ideal. I've been trading via Discord Groups for the most part because it's easier to keep my sales visible. The problem with Discord is that since everything is handled privately via DMs you have no protection against scammers so I wish that I could do it here, but I struggle to keep my threads visible on bell tree forums even when I'm selling highly sought after items like ironwood recipes.
