how to use color codes?

I see a lot of people using color codes in comments, in signatures, in posts, ect. How do I use one? [[I'm such a n00b. something tells me it's going to be really easy...]]

that was the code for the sentence

otherwise, there is an A with an arrow beside it which you can click and pick any colour you like

(im in advanced mode so it would probably look different to when you use quick reply)
