My mom got me HHD for my bday (thanks mom, yes your adult daughter still loses her mind over AC games)
But she got the one with the NFC reader because she wasn't sure if I needed it. I have the new 3DS. She believes in bday presents being a complete surprise so rather than calling me, she just got the more expensive one, knowing I could exchange it for the other and have a few extra dollars. Nice job, mom! I thought that was good thinking.
Until I went to WalMart to exchange it. I didn't have the receipt but my mom said that'd be no big deal since the game is less than $50... you can return things that are less than $50 without a receipt... She made sure... I guess she didn't realize that the $50 had to include tax. So my game, plus taxes was over $50 and in order to return it, I had to get things from the electronics department worth $50 or more.
So I thought, cool, I'll get a couple packs of amiibo cards. Nintendo said cards would be easy to keep in supply. Harharhar.
But of course they were out of Amiibo cards. And the people in electronics thought I was STUPID or something. "No, amiibos are these toys, they ain't cards." FUUU!
So, I tried to get the customer service manager to let me buy some cat litter with the $10. Nope. It had to be electronics, and it had to be over the price of HHD with the NFC reader. I pondered over whether to buy some crappy Eddie Murphy DVD or something else that would get stuffed in a drawer and never used. At this point, any sane person would have just left and said "screw it, I'll just stuff this NFC reader in a drawer." But not me. Not today.
For once in my life I took the approach my mother would have taken.
I never raise hell over customer service things. But I was so exhausted. I went back to customer service and asked for the customer service manager's manager... The comanager on duty (finally someone nice and respectful) agreed to just exchange the game and give me a $10 gift card to use in the store or online. He even asked the manager in customer service why he had to be bothered over a $10 gift card. "If a customer is obviously not trying to exchange something stolen, just bend the rules. This customer is just trying to keep from wasting $10. Don't bother me over $10 again."
Finally, VICTORY!
So now I'm playing and I really like this game. I didn't get it for myself because I thought I wouldn't really care for it. But I'm really happy that my mom got it for me now!
And now I can buy some amiibo cards when WalMart.com restocks them! XD
